Geir Holmsen
Geir Holmsen (born 12 December 1956 in Oslo, Norway) is a Norwegian jazz musician, bassist, arranger and composer, and married 1983 to the singer Maj Britt Andersen. He participated in various bands connected to the jazz club Club 7 in Oslo, from the mid-1970s, including "Kråbøl", "Lotus" and "Chipahua". He is also known from "Jon Eberson Group" (1980–84), "Jazzpønkensemblet" (1982–85) and "Oslo Rhythm & Blues Ensemble" (1986–87). Career Holmsen is educated at the Norges Musikkhøgskole, and did composition studies with Gunnar Sønstevold and Maj Sønstevold, now Professor of Music at the University of Agder (UiA). In the 1970s he took part in jazz bands led by Terje Lie, Paul Weeden, Espen Rud and Ditlef Eckhoff. In the 1980s, Holmsen was within Chipahua, Jon Eberson Group and Jazzpunkensemblet. Oslo, Norway
Oslo ( , , or ; sma, Oslove) is the capital and most populous city of Norway. It constitutes both a county and a municipality. Philips Records
Philips Records is a record label founded by the Dutch electronics company Philips. It was founded as Philips Phonographische Industrie in 1950. In 1946, Philips acquired the company which pressed records for British Decca's Dutch outlet in Amsterdam. History The record label originated as "Philips Phonographische Industrie" (PPI) in June 1950 when it began issuing classical music recordings. Recordings were also made of popular artists of multiple nationalities and of classical artists from Germany, France and the Netherlands. CBS Records International was the international arm of the Columbia Records unit of Columbia Broadcasting System, Inc. (CBS) formed in 1961 and launched in 1962. Trond Brænne
Trond Brænne (31 July 1953 – 16 March 2013) was a Norwegian actor, author and radio personality, best known for his many theater and television roles. He was also a decorated writer of children's songs and literature. Personal life Brænne lived with fellow author Iben Sandemose. His son, Bendik Brænne, is a musician and author, and was, together with his father and with his sister, Kaia Brænne, nominated for the 2010 Brage Prize in the category children's literature. In 1999, Brænne suffered a series of heart attacks, which required him to have a heart transplant, an event that affected him deeply. He nonetheless remained highly active, and returned to his normal work schedule soon. The Gammleng Award ( no, Gammleng-prisen) is a Norwegian culture award created by ''The Fund for Performing Artists'' in 1982, 25 years after the fund was established in 1957. The award's official name is the ''Rolf Gammleng award to performing artists'' (). It's awarded to artists who have in a meritorious way contributed on recordings, stage performances, or concerts. The award is named after Rolf Gammleng, who was leading the ''Norwegian Musicians' Union'' when the fund was created. Spellemannprisen, often referred to as the Norwegian Grammy Awards in English, is a Norwegian music award presented to Norwegian musicians. The award was established by the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI), an organization that represents the interests of the recording industry worldwide. First awarded in 1973, the prize honours musicians from the previous year; it is still awarded annually, usually in January or February. TONO
TONO is a Norwegian corporation that administers copyrights for music in Norway. It is owned and governed by its members; composers, music publishers and text-writers. Through the managing agreement the originators give TONO an exclusive right to administer the members' performing rights in Norway. By 2006 the number of members reached about 14,000, through agreements of reciprocation with about 60 other corporations, organised under the umbrella-organisation CISAC. TONO ''de facto'' manages the whole world-repertoire. TONO was originally created in 1928 under the name of ''Norsk Komponistforenings Internasjonale Musikkbyrå''.
