The ''Geelong News'' is a free weekly paper delivered to houses in the Geelong region in Victoria, Australia. It is published on Wednesdays with a circulation of over 70,000 copies. The focus of most stories are local community issues and sport. Recently the newspaper started producing different content for different parts of Geelong. History The ''Geelong News'' was first published as the ''Belmont and Highton News'' on 21 July 1965. The first edition was delivered to 4000 local households. The publisher of the new newspaper was Dick Horniblow who was 27 years old at the time. He completed a Diploma of Agriculture, before working for three years at the ''Weekly Times'', ''The Sun'', and ''The Herald''. Geelong West, Victoria
Geelong West is a commercial and residential suburb of Geelong, Victoria, Australia. When Geelong was founded, the area was known as Kildare but its name was changed to Geelong West in 1875. The main street is Pakington Street. At the 2016 census, Geelong West had a population of 6,966. History Ashby was once a suburb of Geelong located in the area of Geelong West, west of Latrobe Terrace, between Aberdeen Street and Church Street. By 1850, that area had become known as Little Scotland, and Kildare. At that time, Ashby referred to the area between Autumn Street and Waratah Street. In 1875, the entire Ashby area was renamed Geelong West. The Ashby state school, which had only opened that year, had its name changed to Geelong West. The ''Geelong Independent'' is a local Free newspaper, free weekly newspaper delivered to houses in the Geelong, Victoria, Geelong region in Victoria, Australia, Victoria. The newspaper was first published on 31 October 1986 and was started by a group of local businessmen - mostly real estate agents and car yard salesmen - unhappy with the cost of advertising in existing local publications. They sold their share to the Star News Group managed by fourth generation owner, Paul Thomas, in the mid-2000s with a gradual takeover by the family owned newspaper company. Ballarat ( ) is a city in the Central Highlands of Victoria, Australia. At the 2021 Census, Ballarat had a population of 116,201, making it the third largest city in Victoria.
