Gdynia Maritime University
The Gdynia Maritime University (Polish: Uniwersytet Morski w Gdyni) is one of two colleges in Poland which specialises in educating highly qualified officers for the maritime industry, especially for the merchant navy. History The university was established in 1920 as the Maritime School in Tczew with faculties of navigation and mechanics. In 1930, the school was moved to Gdynia, to a newly built complex of buildings at ul. Morska, and its name was changed to the State Maritime School. During the war, the school operated in England, Southampton and London. In 1921 the flag was raised on the first ''STS Lwów'' school vessel. In 1930, ''STS Lwów'' was replaced with ''STS Dar Pomorza.'' It was later replaced by '' STS Dar Młodzieży.'' In 2001, the university received the status of an academy and the name of Gdynia Maritime Academy. Adam Mohuczy
Adam Mohuczy (1891–1953) was a Polish Navy officer. Captain of several ships and squadrons, Counter Admiral from 1946 and Chief of Staff and Commander of the Polish Navy from 1945–1947. In 1949 arrested by Polish secret police, accused of sabotage, tortured. He died in prison in 1953. In 1957 he was rehabilitated. Biography Adam was born on 7 March 1891 in Vitebsk, Russian Empire. He enlisted in the Russian Navy to become a military officer, finishing the Naval Corps School in Saint Petersburg in 1911. Rafał Piotr Bruski (born 1 July 1962 in Bydgoszcz) is a Polish politician who is a president of Bydgoszcz (since 2010), was a Voivode of Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship (2007-2010) and a former Deputy- President of Bydgoszcz (2006-2007). Bruski worked in Polskie Linie Oceaniczne (''Polish Ocean Lines'') in Gdynia (1986-1992) and Urząd Kontroli Skarbowej (''Revenue Inspection Office'') in Bydgoszcz (1994-2005). Joanna Maria Pilecka (born 25 October 1976 in Bydgoszcz) is a Polish diplomat, serving as an ambassador to Portugal (since 2021). Life Pilecka graduated from the Kazimierz Wielki University in Bydgoszcz and English studies at the Gdynia Maritime University. Marek Józef Gróbarczyk (born 13 March 1968 in Nowy Sącz) is a Polish engineer and manager, who served as a Minister of Maritime Economy in Prime Minister Jarosław Kaczyński's government and has served the same role in the Cabinet of Beata Szydło since 2015. A graduate of the Maritime Academy in Gdynia and the Technological-Agricultural Academy in Bydgoszcz, he spent a number of years after finishing his studies as an officer in western civilian fleets. Karol Olgierd Borchardt
Karol Olgierd Borchardt ( 25 March 1905 – 20 May 1986 ) was a Polish writer and captain of the Polish Merchant Marine. Biography Born to Polish parents in Moscow, Karol Borchardt spent the vast majority of his life in Gdynia and died there in 1986. Borchardt gained a place in history of the Polish Merchant Marine, as an officer on Polish transatlantic liners and training sail ships. During World War II he served on two Polish liners converted into troop transports (the m/v PIłSUDSKI and the m/v CHROBRY), and survived the loss of both.
