Gdańsk Derby
The "Gdańsk Derby" ( pl, Derby Gdańska) is the name given to describe football matches between teams in Gdańsk, Poland. While this term can be used for any team in Gdańsk historically this term has been used for games involving Gedania Gdańsk, Lechia Gdańsk and Stoczniowiec Gdańsk, historically the three biggest teams in the city of Gdańsk. Lechia Gdańsk are both the most successful team in Gdańsk as well as the most successful team in the derby. Through most of the derbies history the derby has been played in the second and third divisions, with more recent Gdańsk Derbies being played in the regional divisions. There has never been a Gdańsk Derby in the top division as Lechia Gdańsk are currently the only team from Gdańsk to have ever played in the Ekstraklasa. The first post-war football match in Gdańsk was played by Milicyjny KS Pogoń, playing against Soviet soldiers who were stationed in Gdańsk at the time. I Liga
I liga ( pl, Pierwsza liga, ), currently named Fortuna I liga due to its sponsorship by Fortuna, is the men's second professional association football division of the Polish football league system, below the Ekstraklasa and above the II liga via promotion/relegation systems. Run by the Polish Football Association (PZPN) since its inception on 30 May 1948. The league was renamed from Second League (II liga) to First League (I liga) in 2008. It is currently contested by 18 teams, from 2002 all clubs onwards must have a licence, issued by the Association.. Tricity Derby
The "Tricity Derby" ( pl, Derby Trójmiasta) is the name given to describe football matches between Arka Gdynia and Lechia Gdańsk, the two biggest teams in the Tricity area. The derby splits the Tricity area, with Arka representing Gdynia, the northern part of the Tricity, while Lechia represent Gdańsk which covers the southern part of the Tricity. The first meeting between the two clubs was in 1964, and has been contested a total of 41 times since then. Despite both teams having featured in the Ekstraklasa throughout their history, the first meeting between the two teams in the top flight happened in 2008. Lechia have been the most successful of the two teams, winning 17 of the contests compared to Arka's 11. Olimpia-Lechia Gdańsk was a short lived Polish association football club, created by a merger of Lechia Gdańsk and Olimpia Poznań, which played in the Ekstraklasa for the 1995-96 Ekstraklasa, 1995–96 season. History Pre-merger Olimpia Poznań Olimpia Poznań was created in 1945, owned by the Milicja Obywatelska, Citizen's Militia. As a result of this the club was seen as being a "Gwardia Ludowa, Gwardian" establishment which left the club poorly supported with fans choosing to follow either Lech Poznań or Warta Poznań. During the 1980s the club was a regular in the Ekstraklasa, however after the fall of communism in Poland in 1989 Olimpia lost a lot of its funding and fell into obscurity. II Liga
II liga (Druga Liga, ), currently named eWinner II liga due to sponsorship reasons by eWinner, is a Polish football league that sits at the third tier of the Polish football league system. Until the end of the 2007–08 season ''II Liga'' referred to a league at the 2nd tier, although this changed with the formation of the Ekstraklasa as the top level league in Poland. Currently, II liga is below I liga and above III liga. Since the 2014/15 season there is one group making up the II Liga unlike in previous seasons when there were two groups (''West'' and ''East''). The league consists of 18 teams. Two first teams win promotion to the I Liga. Teams from places 15–18 are demoted to the III Liga. Teams will play 34 league queue after 9 matches (including 306 meetings) in two rounds: autumn and spring. IV liga Pomerania group (pl. grupa pomorska) is one of the groups of IV liga, the 5th level of Polish football league system. The league was created in season 2000-01 after introducing new administrative division of Poland. Until the end of the 2007-08 season, IV liga was 4th tier of league system, but this changed with the formation of the Ekstraklasa as the top level league in Poland. KS Gedania Danzig was an ethnically-Polish association football club that was part of German football competition in the inter-war period. It was formed in 1922 in what was at the time the Free City of Danzig (present day Gdańsk, Poland).
