Gazza (artist)
Lazarus Shiimi (born 10 March 1977), known by his stage name Gazza, is a Namibian musician. Career Born in Oshikuku,Tonchi, Victor, L.; Lindeke, William A.; Grotpeter, John J. As a soccer lover, he nicknamed himself Gazza after famous English soccer player Paul Gascoigne. After completing high school he went to study marketing at Boston Business College in Cape Town, South Africa where he advanced his love for Kwaito music. His music can be defined as a mix of several influences namely kwaito, dancehall, reggae, and hip hop, and his lyrics are about township life. Oshikuku
Oshikuku is a town in Omusati Region in the north of Namibia. It is the district capital of Oshikuku Constituency. Oshikuku features a secondary school, Nuuyoma Senior Secondary School, and a hospital. Its neighbouring villages are Outapi, Elim and Ogongo. History After Iipumpu Ya Tshilongo, king of the Uukwambi from 1907 to 1932, had resisted the establishment of mission stations in his territory for years, he finally allowed the Catholic Church to establish the first mission station in former Ovamboland in Oshikuku in 1924. The station was established under the leadership of missionary and later Archbishop Joseph Gotthardt. Oshikuku is until today home to a Roman Catholic Church parish. Kwaito is a music genre that emerged in Soweto, Johannesburg, South Africa, during the 1990s. It is a variant of house music that features the use of African sounds and samples. Kwaito songs occur at a slower tempo range than other styles of house music and Kwaito often contains catchy melodic and percussive loop samples, deep bass lines, and vocals. Despite its similarities to hip hop music, Kwaito has a distinctive manner in which the lyrics are sung, rapped and shouted. Blood, Sweat & Tears (also known as "BS&T") is a jazz rock music group founded in New York City in 1967, noted for a combination of brass with rock instrumentation. Big Nuz
Big Nuz was a South African Kwaito trio from Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, founded in 2002. The group was composed of three members known by their stage names Mampintsha, R Mashesha, and Danger. History 2003–2006: Early years The founding members grew up together in the township of Umlazi. The naming of the group was inspired by "NUZ", which is the licence plate prefix for all vehicles registered in Umlazi. The group consisted of three members: Mandla Maphumulo (a.k.a. Mampintsha), Mzi (a.k.a. Danger) and Sbu (a.k.a. Mashesha) and was formed in 2002 when they moved from Durban to Johannesburg to secure a recording contract. Namibian Annual Music Awards
The Namibian Annual Music Awards (NAMA) ceremony was the biggest awards ceremony in Namibia. It was established in 2011 by MTC Namibia and the Namibian Broadcasting Corporation (NBC). They would award a NAMA trophy to musicians in recognition of their outstanding achievements in the music industry of Namibia. Along with the trophy, musicians receive sponsorships, endorsement deals and cash prizes. The NAMAs were usually held in the capital Windhoek. It was broadcast live on DStv on an NBC channel. The show had international music judges, hosts and artists. The first NAMAs took place in May 2011 and the overall winners were Jericho (Best Male Artist) and Gal Level (Best Female Artist). Channel O is a South African-based music channel which first started transmission in 1997. Its main concept is African music in Africa and the diaspora. Channel O can be accessed via DStv, a satellite pay TV service for pan-African households. The channel broadcasts a variety of music videos. It also holds the annual Channel O Music Video Awards ceremony, where artists are awarded for their outstanding contribution to music. Channel O, in recent years, has lost a significant amount of popularity mainly due to the launch of rival channels MTV Base Africa, Trace Urban and Trace Africa.
