Gaywood is an upscale subdivision in the Memorial area in West Houston. The area is served by Rummel Creek Elementary, Memorial Middle School, and Stratford High School in the Spring Branch Independent School District. The area, built in the 1950s–1970s like most Houston suburbs, has become a popular area for new development. Many houses on the Memorial Drive corridor are one story homes, but the neighborhood has seen a significant jump in two-story houses. One of Gaywood's more prominent residents is David Morris, an attorney and LGBTQ activist. News anchor, Dan Rather, and his family also lived in the neighborhood. Memorial Drive (Houston, Texas)
Memorial Drive is an arterial road in the western half of Houston, Texas, United States. It runs from Interstate 45 west to State Highway 6, a distance of approximately 20 miles (32 km). A section goes through several predominantly higher-income residential neighborhoods in the cities of Houston, Bunker Hill Village, Piney Point Village, and Hunters Creek Village, in addition to Memorial Park. Memorial Drive was named in the memory of the men who served in Camp Logan. History Memorial Drive was established in the 1920s. In the 1940s and early 1950s, Memorial Drive was originally intended to be one of ten freeway spokes extending outward from Downtown Houston. Buffalo Bayou
Buffalo Bayou is a slow-moving body of water which flows through Houston in Harris County, Texas. Formed 18,000 years ago, it has its source in the prairie surrounding Katy, Fort Bend County, and flows approximately east through the Houston Ship Channel into Galveston Bay and the Gulf of Mexico.
