Gaythorne is a suburb in the City of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. In the , Gaythorne had a population of 3,023 people. Geography Gaythorne is located seven kilometres north-west of the Brisbane central business district. It is bounded to the north by Kedron Brook. Gaythorne is situated on the slopes of Enoggera Hill. It shares some streets with the neighbouring suburb of Mitchelton. In the late 1990s it was split from Enoggera, a much larger suburb and they continue to share a postcode. It is a leafy, residential suburb with the dominant architectural style being " Queenslander" architecture. It adjoins the Enoggera Barracks and many of its streets are named after World War I sites. Gaythorne railway station is located on the Ferny Grove line in Queensland, Australia. It serves the Brisbane suburb of Gaythorne. History The station was built in 1916 and originally named Rifle Range Station. It was built as an extension of the Ferny Grove line from Enoggera to service the new military camps established in the area during World War 1, such as Bells Paddock. The Ferny Grove railway line is a suburban railway line in Brisbane, the state capital of Queensland, Australia. It is part of the Queensland Rail City network. History Based on initial surveys, in 1885 the Queensland Government planned to construct a railway line to Samford with the intention of extending it to Gympie. However, no immediate action was taken and further surveys resulted in the decision to construct the line to Gympie via the Mayne railway station (Bowen Hills) which created the North Coast railway line. The relocation of Brisbane's cattle sales yard from Normanby to Newmarket created a need to provide a railway to Newmarket. John Cameron (19 October 1834 – 24 March 1902) was a Queensland politician, author, and public figure. A pioneering Brisbane auctioneer, realtor, and principal of Cameron Bros, John Cameron is a key early Queensland public figure and one of the builders of Brisbane.
