Alto Alentejo (intermunicipal Community)
The Comunidade Intermunicipal do Alto Alentejo (; English: ''Upper Alentejo'') is an administrative division in Portugal. It was created in 2009. The seat of the intermunicipal community is Portalegre. Alto Alentejo is coterminous with the former Portalegre District. The population in 2011 was 118,506, in an area of 6,084.34 km². Together with Alentejo Central it covers the area of the former Alto Alentejo Province. With Ponte de Sor the intermunicipal community also includes one municipality that lies in the area of the former Ribatejo Province. Gavião, Portugal
Gavião () is a Portuguese municipality in the District of Portalegre, in the historical region of Alentejo. The population in 2011 was 4,132, in an area of 294.59 km2. The municipality is bounded by Mação to the West and North, Nisa to the East, Crato to the Southeast, Ponte de Sor to the Southwest and Abrantes to the West. Gavião received a ''foral'' from King D. Manuel I of Portugal on November the 23rd of 1519, nowadays, that day is celebrated as municipal holiday.
