Gavin Smellie
Gavin Ramon Smellie (born June 26, 1986) is a Jamaican-born Canadian sprinter. Born in Saint Andrew Parish, Jamaica, Smellie moved to Etobicoke in Canada at the age of 14. Smellie is a graduate of Western Kentucky University which he attended on an athletic scholarship. He represented the WKU Hilltoppers in collegiate track and field competitions. He participated in the 2012 Summer Olympics in the 4 × 100 m relay with teammates Jared Connaughton, Oluseyi Smith and Justyn Warner. In the final, the Canadian relay team arrived in third place and initially believed they had won bronze but they were disqualified when officials judged that Connaughton had stepped on the lane line just before passing the baton. The relay team from Trinidad and Tobago were awarded the bronze. Smellie was selected to represent Canada at the 2018 Commonwealth Games. ISTAF Berlin
The Internationales Stadionfest (ISTAF) is an annual track and field athletics meeting at the Olympic Stadium in Berlin, Germany. It was first held in July 1921 at the Deutsches Stadion, which was replaced from 1937 by the Stadium of the 1936 Olympic Games. Saint Andrew Parish, Jamaica
Saint Andrew is a parish, situated in the southeast of Jamaica in the county of Surrey. It lies north, west and east of Kingston, and stretches into the Blue Mountains. In the 2011 census, it had 573,369, the highest population of any of the parishes in Jamaica. George William Gordon (d. 1865), one of Jamaica's seven National Heroes, was born in this parish. Athletics At The 2020 Summer Olympics – Men's 100 Metres
The men's 100 metres event at the 2020 Summer Olympics took place on 31 July and 1 August 2021 at the Olympic Stadium. 84 athletes were expected to compete; 27 nations used universality places to enter athletes in addition to the 56 qualifying through standard time or ranking (23 universality places were used in 2016). 78 athletes from 59 nations competed. Marcell Jacobs won the gold medal, establishing twice, semifinal and final, the new European record, Italy's first medal in the men's 100 metres. Canada At The 2018 Commonwealth Games
Canada competed at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia from 4 April – 15 April 2018. It was Canada's 21st appearance at the Commonwealth Games, having competed at every Games since their inception in 1930. On 6 October 2016, two time Commonwealth Games gold medalist Claire Carver-Dias was named as the chef de mission of the team. For the first time ever, there has been entry quotas set for all sports and therefore each country is restricted in the number of athletes it could enter. Justyn Warner
Justyn Warner, (born June 28, 1987) is a Canadian track athlete specializing in the 100 metres. He is the former Canadian Junior record holder at that distance with a time of 10.26. He anchored the Canadian 4 × 100 m relay team to a third-place finish at the 2012 Summer Olympics, but they were later disqualified for a teammate stepping out his lane. In 2013 he anchored Canada to a bronze in the same event at the 2013 World Championships in Athletics. He was coached by Kevin Tyler. Career Warner is a graduate of Birchmount Park Collegiate Institute in Scarborough, Ontario. He was a double-sport athlete playing football and running track, where he was an outstanding sprint athlete. Jared Connaughton
Jared Connaughton (born July 20, 1985) is a Canadian former track athlete who specialized in the 100m and 200m. He is now a physical education cross country, and track and field coach at a private school in Fort Worth, Texas (Fort Worth Country Day). Biography Connaughton was born in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, Canada. He is the son of Susan and Neal Connaughton. He attended Bluefield High School and graduated in the spring of 2003. Jared received a B.A from the University of Texas-Arlington in 2008. He is married to fellow University of Texas-Arlington athlete, Tamesha (nee Graves). They were wed in December 2011.
