Gauss Lectureship
The Gauss Lectureship (''Gauß-Vorlesung'') is an annually awarded mathematical distinction, named in honor of Carl Friedrich Gauss. It was established in 2001 by the German Mathematical Society with a series of lectures for a broad audience. Carl Friedrich Gauss
Johann Carl Friedrich Gauss (; german: Gauß ; la, Carolus Fridericus Gauss; 30 April 177723 February 1855) was a German mathematician and physicist who made significant contributions to many fields in mathematics and science. Friedrich Götze
Friedrich Götze (born 6 August 1951 in Hameln) is a German mathematician, specializing in probability theory, mathematical statistics, and number theory. Education and career Götze studied mathematics and physics at the University of Göttingen and the University of Bonn by means of a scholarship from the Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes. In 1978 he received his doctorate from the University of Cologne with thesis ''Asymptotic Expansions in the Central Limit Theorem in Banach Spaces'' under the supervision of Johann Pfanzagl. At the University of Cologne, Götze was an assistant, interrupted by a year as visiting professor at the University of California, Berkeley. In 1983 he habilitated in Cologne with thesis ''Asymptotic developments in central limit theorems''. In 1984 he became a professor of mathematics at Bielefeld University. Ulrike Luise Tillmann FRS is a mathematician specializing in algebraic topology, who has made important contributions to the study of the moduli space of algebraic curves. Katrin Wendland (born 1970) is a German mathematical physicist who works as a professor at Trinity College Dublin.. Wendland earned a diploma in mathematics from the University of Bonn in 1996, and a PhD in physics from the University of Bonn in 2000, under the supervision of Werner Nahm. After being a lecturer and then senior lecturer at the University of Warwick from 2002 to 2006, she returned to Germany as a professor at the University of Augsburg, where she held the Chair for Analysis and Geometry. Hans Werner Ballmann (known as Werner Ballmann; born 11 April 1951) is a German mathematician. Volker Ludwig Mehrmann (born 1955) is a German mathematician. Education and career At Bielefeld University he completed his PhD in 1982 under Ludwig Elsner and his Habilitation in 1987 with a dissertation on control theory.
