There was only one other middle school in Kissimmee at the time. It was called Beaumont Middle School and students began the year at that one in August 1974. Joseph Torres (born September 3, 1982) is an American professional baseball assistant pitching coach for the Cleveland Guardians of Major League Baseball. Career Torres attended Gateway High School in Kissimmee, Florida. As a pitcher for the school's baseball team, he had a 1.58 earned run average (ERA) and 370 strikeouts in innings pitched. As a senior, he had a 0.38 ERA with 128 strikeouts in 55 innings. Torres accepted a scholarship to play college baseball for the University of Miami. The Anaheim Angels selected Torres in the first round, with the 10th overall selection, of the 2000 Major League Baseball draft.
