Gastón Azcárraga
Gastón Azcárraga Andrade is a Mexican businessman and current fugitive of the Mexican justice system, who has controlled Grupo Posadas and Mexicana Airlines, and is wanted for financial crimes linked to the latter company prior to its bankruptcy. The order for his arrest was overturned, but in late 2018 was reaffirmed, and Azcárraga remains at large, living in luxury in the United States, having requested asylum there. Embezzlement Azcárraga has been accused of financial fraud related to his administration and ownership of Mexicana Airlines. On February 19, 2014, Mexico issued an arrest warrant for money laundering. Grupo Posadas, S.A.B. de C.V. or Posadas is a hospitality company based in Mexico City. It owns, leases, operates and manages hotels, resorts and villas with its several different brands. As of 2020, the company operates more than 150 hotels with 24,000 hotel rooms. Aviation In 2005, Grupo Posadas took control of Mexicana de Aviación, Mexico's second largest airline group. Over the next few years, the new owners shifted their business focus from the airline group's largest but least profitable airline, Mexicana, toward its two smaller but more profitable affiliates, MexicanaClick and MexicanaLink. The Mexicana unit was eventually stripped and sold after a long dispute with the airline's unions failed to produce any significant givebacks by unions. Compañía Mexicana de Aviación, S.A. de C.V. (usually shortened to Mexicana de Aviación or simply Mexicana) was Mexico's oldest airline and one of the List of airlines by foundation date, oldest continuously single-branded airlines (after KLM, Avianca and Qantas, QANTAS). It was Mexico's biggest airline and flagship airline before ceasing operations on August 28, 2010.
