Gaspar de Bracamonte y Guzmán, 3rd Count of Peñaranda ( es, Gaspar de Bracamonte y Guzmán, tercer Conde de Peñaranda) (c. 1595 – 14 December 1676) was a Spanish diplomat and statesman. Life Bracamonte was born in Peñaranda de Bracamonte, Spain, in 1595. He was the son of Alonso de Bracamonte, 1st Count of Peñaranda and the Spanish prince instructor. He married his niece María de Bracamonte, daughter of his older brother Balthazar Emmanuel, 2nd Count of Peñaranda. They had a son, Gregorio, 4th Count of Peñaranda, who died without legitimate heirs in 1689. Bracamonte died in Madrid, Spain, on 14 December 1676 Bracamonte led the Spanish delegation at the Peace of Westphalia in 1648, representing Philip IV. From 1659 to 1664 he was Spanish Viceroy of Naples and after death king Philip IV, one of the regents of the Kingdom of Spain. Mariana of Austria ( es, Mariana de Austria) or Maria Anna (24 December 163416 May 1696) was Queen of Spain as the second wife of her uncle Philip IV of Spain from their marriage in 1649 until Philip died in 1665. She was then appointed regent for their three-year-old son Charles II, and due to his ill health remained an influential figure until her own death in 1696. Her regency was overshadowed by the need to manage Spain's post-1648 decline as the dominant global power, internal political divisions and the European economic crisis of the second half of the 17th century. The inability of her son Charles to produce an heir led to constant manoeuvring by other European powers, which ultimately ended in the 1701 to 1714 War of the Spanish Succession. Pascual de Aragón y Córdoba (1626 – 28 September 1677) was a Spanish nobleman and cleric. He served as Viceroy of Naples and as Archbishop of Toledo. Biography Born in Mataró, Province of Barcelona, as son of Enrique de Aragón Folc de Cardona y Córdoba, Aragón was ordained a priest in 1655. In 1661, aged thirty-five, he was created Cardinal-Priest of Sainte Balbine by Pope Alexander VII. However, he did not participate in the Conclaves held in his lifetime. In 1664, King Philip IV of Spain appointed him Viceroy of Naples. In 1666, he was replaced by his brother, Pedro Antonio de Aragón, as he was called back to Spain to become Archbishop of Toledo. Aragón had enjoyed the patronage of the previous Archbishop, Baltasar Moscoso y Sandoval, and upon the latter's death in 1665 had been nominated to succeed him.
