Gary Powell (born 10 September 1963) is a British actor. He is possibly best known for playing the character Laurie Bates in the BBC soap opera ''EastEnders''. Career Laurie made his first screen appearance in September 1989 as a love interest for Kathy Beale (Gillian Taylforth), but the character was one of many to be written out of the serial early in 1990, following the introduction of executive producer, Michael Ferguson. Gary Powell (footballer)
Gary Powell (born 2 April 1969) is an English footballer. He is currently the first-team coach at Stockport County. In November 1990, he joined Scunthorpe United on a month's loan, scoring in his second game against York City but failing to appear in a winning side during his stay. He joined Altrincham in December 1993, debuting in the 1–0 Football Conference victory at Witton Albion on 18 December 1993. He scored one league goal for the club, in the 2–0 home victory over Dover Athletic on 26 February 1994, before moving on to Macclesfield Town at the end of March. He scored twice in the Football Conference for the Macclesfield, scoring the winner in the 1–0 home win over Welling United on 2 May and the equaliser in the final match of the season five days later, a 1–1 draw at Northwich Victoria. Gary Armstrong Powell (born 11 November 1969) is an English drummer. Musical career He is primarily known for being the drummer for English bands The Libertines and Dirty Pretty Things, as well as Guyanese-British reggae musician Eddy Grant. Powell joined The Libertines in 2001 after being introduced to frontmen Carl Barât and Pete Doherty by their then-manager Banny Poostchi. He also played with the New York Dolls for their 2004 reunion shows, Powell has performed at the Isle of Wight Festival, Wireless Festival, T in the Park and Oxygen, as well as playing with Red Hot Chili Peppers. Powell also has a successful DJ career, deejaying for club NME at London's Koko and Carl Barat's club night as well as many other venues in London.
