Gary Phillips (rugby League)
Gary Phillips is a New Zealand former rugby league footballer who played in the 1950s and 1960s. He represented New Zealand in the 1960 World Cup. Playing career Phillips played for Ellerslie in the Auckland Rugby League competition and represented Auckland. He was first selected for the New Zealand national rugby league team in 1959 for the tour of Australia. Phillips went on to play in eight tests for New Zealand, including at the 1960 World Cup. Phillips was also part of the Auckland sides that defeated Australia in 1961 and Great Britain in 1962. Ellerslie Eagles
The Ellerslie Eagles are a rugby league club based in Ellerslie, New Zealand. The club was founded in 1912 and competes in Auckland Rugby League competitions. Its premier team competes in the Sharman cup. The club celebrated its centenary Queen's Birthday weekend, 2012. Great Britain National Rugby League Team
The Great Britain national rugby league team represents Great Britain in rugby league. Administered by the Rugby Football League (RFL), the team is nicknamed The Lions. For most of the 20th century, the Great Britain team toured overseas, played against foreign touring teams and competed in the Rugby League World Cup, which they won three times: in 1954, 1960 and 1972. Since 1995, the RFL has sent separate home nations teams to the World Cup. Great Britain continued to compete as a Test playing nation both home and away. They competed against Australia for the Ashes, and New Zealand for the Baskerville Shield, as well the Tri-Nations series with both Australia and New Zealand. The Auckland rugby league team is the team which traditionally represents all of the clubs which play in the Auckland Rugby League competition. As well as a senior men's team there are also Auckland representative teams throughout the various age groups such as under 15s, under 17s, under 19s and under 21s. Neville Leon Denton (22 July 1934 – 27 March 2015) was a New Zealand rugby league player who represented New Zealand in the 1954 and 1960 World Cup. Playing career Denton, an Auckland representative, played in 13 test matches for the New Zealand national rugby league team between 1954 and 1963. During this time Denton attended the 1954, 1957 and 1960 World Cups. However he did not play a match in the 1957 World Cup.
