Gary Burne
Gary Burne (20 April 1934 – 26 August 1976) was a Rhodesian dancer, ballet master, and choreographer who spent ten years with the Royal Ballet in England before moving to South Africa to dance with ballet companies in Johannesburg and Cape Town. He also danced for a period in Toronto, Canada. Early life and training Algernon de Blois Hayes-Hill was born in Bulawayo, an industrial center in Matabeleland, a district of the self-governing British Crown colony of Southern Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe). He began his dance training as a seven year old youth with Elaine Archibald, where his grandmother, tasked with his care during WWII, was the studio pianist. He soon showed a facility for classical ballet. When Anton Dolin (ballet dancer), Anton Dolin saw him in class, aged fifteen, during a visit to Southern Rhodesia, he suggested that Hayes-Hill would benefit from further training in London. David Poole (dancer)
David Poole (17 September 1925 – 27 August 1991) was a South African ballet dancer, choreographer, teacher, and company director. During his thirty-year association with dance companies in Cape Town, he had "a profound effect on ballet in South Africa. He is internationally recognised as a significant figure in the world of dance. Early life and training Born in Cape Town, the capital city of the Cape Province, near the southern tip of South Africa, David Poole did not begin his dance training until the age of eighteen, quite late for a dancer with professional aspirations. Phyllis Spira (18 October 1943 – 11 March 2008) was a South African ballet dancer who began her career with the Royal Ballet in England. Upon returning to South Africa, she spent twenty-eight years as ''prima ballerina'' of CAPAB Ballet, a professional company in Cape Town named for the Cape Performing Arts Board. In 1984 she was named the first (and currently only) South African ''Prima Ballerina Assoluta''. Yvette Chauviré
Yvette Chauviré (; 22 April 1917 – 19 October 2016) was a French prima ballerina and actress. She is often described as France's greatest ballerina, and was the coach of prima ballerinas Sylvie Guillem and Marie-Claude Pietragalla. She was awarded the Légion d'Honneur in 1964. Early life Yvonne Chauviré was born in Paris on 22 April 1917. Aged 10, in 1927, she entered the Paris Opera Ballet school, and at the age of 12 she was noticed for her performance in the children's ballet ''L'Eventail de Jeanne'' ("Jeanne's Fan").
