Gary Ashby
Gary W. Ashby (born 1955) was the head coach of the Texas Tech Red Raiders baseball team from 1984 to 1986. Ashby's ties with Texas Tech were made long before becoming the head coach. Ashby had a dominant high school career under the highly touted high school baseball coach Bobby Moegle who has been inducted into the Texas Sports Hall of Fame. In 1972, Ashby hit .429 as a starter and helped them secure the first of Moegle's four state championships. Once Ashby graduated, he continued his playing days at Texas Tech. He started every year in his four-year career with the Red Raiders and now holds single season records in home runs, rbis and doubles to go along with earning NCAA All-American honors in his senior year. Lubbock, Texas
Lubbock ( ) is the 10th-most populous city in the U.S. state of Texas and the seat of government of Lubbock County. Texas Tech Red Raiders Baseball
The Texas Tech Red Raiders baseball team represents Texas Tech University in NCAA Division I college baseball. The team competes in the Big 12 Conference and plays at Dan Law Field at Rip Griffin Park. Their head coach is Tim Tadlock and is entertaining his 9th season with the Red Raiders. History Early years Along with the football and men's basketball teams, the Texas Tech baseball team was founded during the university's initial academic year, in 1925–26. The team's first series was against the West Texas A&M Buffaloes in 1926, an 18–9 victory in the first game and 14–9 loss in the second. The third game in the team's history—this one against Daniel Baker College—ended in a 3–3 tie after 11 innings. E. Y. Texas Tech University (Texas Tech, Tech, or TTU) is a public research university in Lubbock, Texas. Monterey High School (Lubbock, Texas)
Monterey High School is a 5A high school located in central Lubbock, Texas, United States (Monterey High School became a 6A school at the beginning of the 2014–2015 academic year per the UIL realignment announcement of February 2012). Monterey is part of the Lubbock Independent School District. Established in 1955, Monterey was the third high school to be established in Lubbock, after Lubbock High School and Dunbar High School. Dunbar was later changed to a Junior High. The current city of Lubbock started from the merger of two separate communities, Old Lubbock and Monterey. In a compromise move, the residents of Old Lubbock relocated to Monterey but renamed the new community Lubbock; the high school name is in remembrance to Lubbock's past. All-America
The All-America designation is an annual honor bestowed upon an amateur sports person from the United States who is considered to be one of the best amateurs in their sport. Individuals receiving this distinction are typically added to an All-America team for their sport. Some sports will have multiple All-America teams and will list the honorees as members of a first team, second team, or third team. As such, All-America teams are composed of outstanding US amateur players. Individuals falling short of qualifying for the honor may receive All-America honorable mention. The designation is typically used at the collegiate level although, beginning in 1957, high school- athletes in football began being honored with All-America status, which then carried-over to other sports like basketball and cross-country running. San Diego Padres
