Garvin Bushell ''(né'' Garvin Lamont Payne; September 25, 1902 – October 31, 1991) was an American woodwind multi-instrumentalist. Biography Bushell was born in Springfield, Ohio, to Alexander Payne, Jr. (1875–1908) and Effie Penn ''(maiden;'' 1879–1968). After his father's death, his mother – on January 12, 1910, in Covington, Kentucky – married Rev. Joseph Davenport Bushell (1878–1960). Garvin adopted the surname of his stepfather. Bushell played both jazz and classical music on clarinet, alto clarinet, oboe, english horn, flute, saxophone, bassoon, and contrabassoon. Garvin James Alston Sr. (born December 8, 1971) is an American professional baseball right-handed pitcher who played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Colorado Rockies in 1996. After retiring from playing, he entered coaching and previously served as the pitching coach for the Minnesota Twins. He is now the pitching coach for the Sacramento River Cats, the San Francisco Giants' Triple-A affiliate. Terence Damian Garvin (born January 1, 1991) is a former American football linebacker. He played college football for West Virginia, and was signed by the Pittsburgh Steelers as an undrafted free agent in 2013. College career As a freshman at West Virginia in 2009, Garvin played in 10 games and finished with 10 tackles for the season. In 2010, Garvin started all 13 games and finished with 76 tackles. Ted Garvin (August 20, 1923 – November 18, 1992) was a Canadian ice hockey forward and head coach primarily in the International Hockey League. Playing career Born in Sarnia, Ontario, he began his playing career in the Eastern Hockey League with the Philadelphia Falcons (1943–44) and Washington Lions (1945–46) and played two seasons with the Sarnia Sailors of the International Hockey League (1949–50 – 1950–51). Stephen Garvin (1826 – 23 November 1874), born in Cashel, County Tipperary, was an Irish recipient of the Victoria Cross, the highest award for gallantry in the face of the enemy that can be awarded to British and Commonwealth forces.
