Garrigues (comarca)
Les Garrigues () is a comarca (county) in Catalonia, Spain. Its capital is Les Borges Blanques. Its symbol (on the flag and shield in the right panel) is an olive branch, Les Garrigues being the center of olive cultivation (most of it without the necessity of irrigation) in all of Catalonia History The cave paintings at Roca dels Moros, El Cogul, are the most important vestiges of prehistoric settlement in Les Garrigues. Comarques Of Catalonia
This is a list of the 42 ''comarques'' (singular ''comarca'', , ) into which Catalonia is divided. A ''comarca'' is a group of municipalities, roughly equivalent to a county in the US or a district or council in the UK. However, in the context of Catalonia, the term "county" can be a bit misleading, because in medieval Catalonia, aside from the kings of Aragon, the most important rulers were counts, notably the Counts of Barcelona and of Urgell. Comarques have no particular relation to the "counties" that were ruled by counts. Vinaixa
Vinaixa () is a municipality in the region of Les Garrigues, in the province of Lleida, Catalonia, Spain. The town centre is arranged around the old castle and in the appearance of the buildings stone predominates. It has a hunting ground and the stone industry has been the main economic activity for many years. In its municipality, there are numerous pine forests. The main attraction is the church of St. John the Baptist, in Romanesque-Cistercian style. It houses several Romanesque paintings and a Gothic retable.
