New Lisbon, New York
New Lisbon is a town in Otsego County, New York, United States. The population was 1,114 at the 2010 census. The Town of New Lisbon is in the west-central part of the county. It is north of the City of Oneonta. History The town was first settled ''circa'' 1773, but most pioneers did not enter the area until after the Revolutionary War. It is mentioned that a cultivated apple orchard was found by early settlers on the west side of the Butternut Creek near Noblesville, presumably planted by Native Americans. The town was formed from part of Pittsfield in 1806, but was then called "Lisbon." The name was changed to "New Lisbon" in 1808. North American area code 607 is a state of New York telephone area code servicing parts of its Southern Tier (which borders Pennsylvania). It was created in 1954 by combining the southern portion of 315 and the eastern portion of 716. New York State Route 51 (NY 51) is a north–south state highway in the central part of the U.S. state of New York. The highway runs generally in a southwest to northeast direction from NY 8 in the hamlet of Mount Upton to north of the village of Ilion, where it ends at NY 5. NY 51 intersects several primary routes including, a short overlap with NY 23 in the village of Morris, a overlap with U.S. Route 20 (US 20) in Winfield, and NY 5S in Illion. NY 51 is a two-lane highway its entire length. In the 1920s, a segment of modern NY 51 between West Burlington and West Winfield was designated as part of NY 44, a route that extended from Sidney to Utica. Butternut Creek (Otsego County)
Butternut Creek is a river in the state of New York. It converges with the Unadilla River just downstream of Mount Upton. The creek has many fish for fishing dominated by largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, wall-eye, chain pickerel, rock bass, and yellow perch. The Mohawk called the creek the Tienuderrah. General Jacob Morris visited the area in 1787, and described Butternut Creek as "the handsomest navigable creek I ever lay my eyes upon."
