The Garrison of Porsanger ( no, Garnisonen i Porsanger), based at Porsangmoen in Porsanger, located in the Norwegian county of Finnmark 18 km from the city of Lakselv. The garrison is located immediately adjacent to Halkavarre, the largest military training area in Norway. Porsanger ( se, Porsáŋgu; fkv, Porsanki) is a List of municipalities of Norway, municipality in Troms og Finnmark Counties of Norway, county, Norway. The administrative centre of the municipality is the village of Lakselv. Finnmark (; se, Finnmárku ; fkv, Finmarku; fi, Ruija ; russian: Финнмарк) was a county in the northern part of Norway, and it is scheduled to become a county again in 2024. On 1 January 2020, Finnmark was merged with the neighbouring county of Troms to form the new Troms og Finnmark county. Lakselv
( sme, Leavdnja; fkv, Lemmijoki) is the largest village and administrative centre of Porsanger Municipality in Troms og Finnmark county, Norway. The village lies at the southern end of the large Porsangerfjorden. The village has a population (2017) of 2,283 which gives the village a population density of . There are a number of shops and supermarkets in Lakselv, as well as private and public sector services that cater for the village and its surrounding settlements. Lakselv Church is located in the center part of the village. Transportation The European route E6 highway runs through the village. Jegerkompaniet
''Jegerkompaniet'' (Arctic Ranger Company) / ISTAR was the Norwegian Army's northernmost unit. It was deployed to the world's northernmost military garrison, Porsangmoen, at 70 degrees northern latitude. The company had both conscripts and professional soldiers. The unit was specialized in unconventional warfare and guerrilla tactics and long range reconnaissance deep behind enemy lines, with no support from other units, in all weather conditions and in all terrain, for periods of up to 30 days. Training at the Arctic Ranger Company was similar to training at other ranger units, with the exception that much more time was spent on winter training. The overall goal of the training was to produce Arctic Rangers that are capable of combat and survival behind enemy lines for periods of up to 30 days with no support from other units. ISTAR stands for intelligence, surveillance, target acquisition, and reconnaissance. In its macroscopic sense, ISTAR is a practice that links several battlefield functions together to assist a combat force in employing its sensors and managing the information they gather. Information is collected on the battlefield through systematic observation by deployed soldiers and a variety of electronic sensors. Garnisonen I Sør-Varanger
Garnisonen ("Garrison") is a city district in Linköping, which was previously the site of the two military units closed down in July 1997, Life Grenadier Regiment (I 4) and Svea Artillery Regiment (A 1). In 2000, the district was formed by division of Ekkällan. The area is still under development, and there are homes, schools, recreation centers, grocery stores, offices and more. There are also many public sector agencies such as Linköping District Court, Police, Prosecutor's office, Probation Service and the Swedish National Laboratory of Forensic Science. Alta Battalion
The Alta Battalion ( no, Alta bataljon) was an independent battalion within the Norwegian 6th Division based in the village of Alta in western Finnmark and commanded by Lt. Colonel Arne Dagfin Dahl. The Alta battalion was multiethnic, being constituted by ethnic Norwegians, Sámi and Kvens. It made great successes in halting the German invasion of Norway at Narvik. Neutrality duty The Alta battalion was mobilized 10 October 1939 to help guard Norway's neutrality in the Second World War and positioned in the border areas of eastern Finnmark during the Finnish Winter War to safeguard the northernmost areas of Norway against possible Soviet aggression.
