Garland High School
Garland High School is a high school located in Garland, Texas, which serves grades 9-12. It is a part of the Garland Independent School District. The school is a member of the AP program, the IB program, and is known for its football team, the Garland Owls. In 2015, the school was rated " Met Standard" by the Texas Education Agency. History Garland High School was founded in 1902, and was established in the former Garland College. Around 1912 the building was expanded and renovated. It is the oldest of the district's high schools, having celebrated its 100-year anniversary in the 2001–2002 school year. The school celebrated its 70th anniversary at the ''current'' location (referring to the current building) in the 2006–2007 school year. Garland is a city in the U.S. state of Texas. It is located northeast of Dallas and is a part of the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex. It is located within Dallas County except for small portions located in Collin and Rockwall Counties. At the 2010 census, the city had a population of 226,876. Ikechukwu Somtochukwu Diogu (born September 11, 1983) is a Nigerian-American professional basketball player for Piratas de La Guaira of the Superliga Profesional de Baloncesto in Venezuela. The Indianapolis Colts are a professional American football team based in Indianapolis, Indiana. Robert Dean Boyd (December 3, 1937 – August 28, 2017) was a National Football League (NFL) cornerback who played for the Baltimore Colts in a nine-year career from 1960 to 1968. When Boyd retired, he was one of eight players with fifty interceptions in NFL history; he was third all-time upon retirement, and only ten players have passed him in the half-century since 1968. He is one of four players with fifty interceptions who played less than ten years. Early life Donny Cates was born in Dallas, Texas. Raised in Garland, Texas, Cates states that he was taught to read by his father using comic books. Cates graduated from Garland High School and attended the Savannah College of Art and Design, where he would meet future artistic collaborators Tradd Moore and Geoff Shaw.
