Garland is an unincorporated community in Butler County, Alabama, United States, located west of McKenzie. History The community was named in 1831 for W. P. Garland, who was one of the chief engineers on the Mobile and Montgomery Railroad. At one time, Garland had a hotel, saw mill, drug store, shoe shop, school, and five general stores. Garland was formerly home to a Masonic lodge, Garland Lodge No. 684. A post office operated under the name Garland from 1860 to 1975. McKenzie is a town in Butler and Conecuh counties in the U.S. state of Alabama. The population was 530 at the 2010 census. Geography McKenzie is located in southern Butler County at (31.542801, -86.719772). A portion of the town extends south into Conecuh County. Earnie Dee Shaver (August 31, 1944 – September 1, 2022), best known as Earnie Shavers, was an American professional boxer who competed between 1969 and 1995. A two-time world heavyweight championship challenger, he is known as one of the hardest punchers in heavyweight boxing history.
