Garfield Peak (Oregon)
Garfield Peak is a mountain peak on the south end of Crater Lake in Crater Lake National Park, Oregon. The top of the peak reaches above sea level. The peak has a elevation trail to the summit from the Crater Lake lodge, one of the most popular hiking sites surrounding the lake. The trail continues east toward Applegate peak ( high). The peak is one of seven peaks on Crater Lake's rim to rise above . History The Garfield Peak was named in honor of James Rudolph Garfield, the Secretary of Interior for President Theodore Roosevelt, who created the national park in 1902. Garfield visited the park in 1907, the first cabinet member to visit Crater Lake. Geology Garfield Peak was created after Mount Mazama, a large stratovolcano, erupted violently approximately 7,700 years ago, formed on the rim of its caldera which now contains Crater Lake. Crater Lake Lodge
Crater Lake Lodge is a hotel built in 1915 to provide overnight accommodations for visitors to Crater Lake National Park in southern Oregon, US. The lodge is located on the southwest rim of the Crater Lake caldera overlooking the lake below. The lodge is owned by the National Park Service, and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. In 2022, the hotel is a Historic Hotels of America program member, and has been so since 2012. Stratovolcano
A stratovolcano, also known as a composite volcano, is a conical volcano built up by many layers (strata) of hardened lava and tephra. ''Ribes laxiflorum'' is a species of currant known by the common names trailing black currant, and spreading currant. It is native to western North America. Description ''Ribes laxiflorum'' is a spreading, trailing shrub usually growing in height. It has been known to take a somewhat vine-like form in appropriate shady habitat with nearby supports, climbing to in length. It has fuzzy, glandular stems lacking spines and prickles. The hairy, glandular, maple-shaped leaves are up to long and deeply divided into several pointed lobes lined with dull teeth. The inflorescence is a mostly erect raceme of up to eight flowers. The distinctive flower has five greenish, purplish, or red sepals which are often curved back at the tips.
