Gardening Australia
''Gardening Australia'' is an Australian lifestyle television program which suggests and promotes organic and environmentally friendly ways of gardening. It is created by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation and airs on ABC TV, in an hour-long weekly show each Friday evening. A monthly magazine, ''Gardening Australia'', was spawned by the show. History The series has its origins in 1969 as ''It's Growing'', with five minute segments broadcast ahead of the Sunday night news on ABT2 in Hobart. It was hosted by Peter Cundall, an experienced gardener with a passion for growing plants using organic methods. He had hosted a gardening talkback segment on ABC radio in Hobart since 1967. It was renamed ''Landscape'' in 1972 and extended to 15 minutes per episode. The format was adapted into ''Gardening Australia'' in 1990, broadcast nationally with the format expanded to 30 minutes per episode. Peter Cundall
Peter Joseph Cundall, (1 April 1927 – 5 December 2021) was an English-born Australian horticulturalist, conservationist, author, broadcaster and television personality. He lived in Tasmania's Tamar Valley, and until 2008, at the age of 81, presented the ABC TV program '' Gardening Australia''. Starting in 1967, he presented what is believed to be the world's first gardening talkback radio segment. He was made a Member of the Order of Australia in 2007 "For service to the environment, particularly the protection of wilderness areas in Tasmania, and to horticulture as a presenter of gardening programs on television and radio." Indira Naidoo
Indira Naidoo is an Australian author, journalist and television and radio presenter. Education Naidoo's parents were Indian South Africans, who were politically active during the apartheid years. Her father was a dentist and her mother a teacher. They lived in Pietermaritzburg, before leaving the country when Naidoo was two years old, owing to the discrimination which limited her parents' occupations. She was educated in England, Zambia, Zimbabwe, and Tasmania, attending 12 schools, completing year 12 in Adelaide, South Australia. Career Journalism Naidoo completed a journalism degree at the South Australian College of Advanced Education (now the University of South Australia) and joined the Australian Broadcasting Corporation in Adelaide in 1990 as a news cadet. Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens
The Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens (''RTBG''), which cover an area of approximately 14 hectares (34.6 acres), in Hobart located within the Queens Domain. History The gardens were established in 1818 and is the second oldest Botanical Gardens in Australia – the Sydney Botanic gardens were founded two years earlier.
