Gardeners' Royal Benevolent Society
Gardeners' Royal Benevolent Society is a large national charity in the United Kingdom. It currently operates under the working name Perennial. Founded in 1839, Gardeners' Royal Benevolent Society is based in Leatherhead, Surrey, and is a registered charity under English and Scottish law. Its activities include support for people in the horticultural trade, education in horticulture and preservation of gardens. Gardens Perennial maintains two gardens open to the public. York Gate Garden is at Adel near Leeds. The garden was given to the society by Sybil Spencer in 1994. Sybil Spencer
Sybil Beatrice Spencer born Sybil Beatrice Armitage (29 March 1908 – 1994) was a British gardener. With her husband and son she created the York Gate Garden. After the deaths of her son and her husband she cared for the garden for twelve years leaving it to a charity to be shared by visitors. Life Spencer was born in Leeds; her parents were Mary Jane (born Ellis) and Nathaniel Newburn Armitage, a pharmacist. Adel is a suburb of Leeds, West Yorkshire, England. To its immediate south is Weetwood, to the west are Cookridge and Holt Park, to the east are Alwoodley and Moortown, and to the north are Bramhope, Arthington and Eccup. West Stow
West Stow is a small village and civil parish in West Suffolk, England. The village lies north of Bury St. Edmunds, south of Mildenhall and Thetford and west of the villages of Culford and Ingham in the area known as the Breckland. This area is located near the Lark River Valley and was settled from around AD 420–650. West Stow Hall is to the North of the village. Its name may come from Anglo-Saxon ''wēste stōw'' = "deserted place", rather than "western place". West Stow is home to the West Stow Anglo-Saxon village where visitors may see reconstructed Anglo-Saxon houses, and often living history re-enactments of Dark Ages life. Sir Roy Strong
Sir Roy Colin Strong, (born 23 August 1935) is an English art historian, museum curator, writer, broadcaster and landscape designer. He has served as director of both the National Portrait Gallery and the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. Strong was knighted in 1982. Early years Roy Colin Strong was born at Winchmore Hill, London Borough of Enfield (then in Middlesex), the third son of hat manufacturer's commercial traveller George Edward Clement Strong, and Mabel Ada Strong (''née'' Smart).
