The Circle Album Chart, previously known as the Gaon Album Chart, is a record chart ranking the 100 most popular albums, extended plays and single albums in South Korea based on their pure sales. It is a part of the Circle Chart, previously known as the Gaon Chart. It compiles shipments in weekly, monthly and year-end format with detailed album sales. The Gaon Album Chart is a record chart that ranks the best-selling albums and EPs in South Korea. It is part of the Gaon Music Chart which launched in February 2010. The data for the chart is compiled by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korean Music Content Industry Association based on weekly and monthly physical albums and digital sales by six major distributors: LOEN Entertainment, S.M. Entertainment, Sony Music Korea, Warner Music Korea, Universal Music and Mnet Media. Overall, BTS' album ''Wings'' was Gaon Album Chart best selling album of 2016, selling 751,301 copies in a year. With ''Wings'', BTS breaks the highest-selling album ever recorded on Gaon Music Chart since the chart’s inception in 2010. ''Hoot'' (; subtitled ''009'') is the third extended play by the South Korean girl group Girls' Generation. The extended play contains five songs and was released on 27 October 2010, by SM Entertainment. The album is listed by Gaon Album Chart as the third best-selling album of 2010 in South Korea, with 163,066 copies sold. Composition Contributions to the album's production came from Wheesung, Jinu (Hitchhiker), Kenzie and the former Roommate and Nadia member Hwang Hyun. The title song, "Hoot", was composed by the Danish songwriter-producers Martin Michael Larsson and Lars Halvor Jensen, of Deekay, together with the British songwriter Alex James, with the intention of creating an "exciting up-tempo record for a female artist or group". Girls' Generation (), also known as SNSD, is a South Korean girl group formed by SM Entertainment. The group is composed of eight members: Taeyeon, Sunny, Tiffany, Hyoyeon, Yuri, Sooyoung, Yoona, and Seohyun. Originally a nine-piece ensemble, Jessica departed from the group in September 2014. Following the announcement of the data for week 27 and the monthly chart of June, the Gaon Album Chart was rebranded to the Circle Album Chart in line with Gaon's rebranding to Circle.
