Gano Forum
Gano Forum ( bn, গণফোরাম), literally ''People's Forum'', is a political party in Bangladesh. GF was formed through a split of the Awami League and the merger of civil society groups in 1992. The party is headed by one of its founders, the constitutional lawyer and international jurist Dr. Kamal Hossain. The former Bangladeshi finance minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith served as the founding general secretary of party. After the death of Saifuddin Ahmed Manik in 2008, Then Mostafa Mohsin Montu served almost one decade and then Dr Reza Kibria has served as the General Secretary until he resign from the party on February, 2021 Veteran politicians such as Advocate Zahirul Islam (former member of Parliament) and Mr. Mafizul Islam Khan Kamal (former member of Parliament) are a part of Gano Forum. Kamal Hossain
Kamal Hossain (born 20 April 1937) is a founding leader, lawyer and politician of Bangladesh. He is known as the "father of the Bangladeshi constitution" and regarded as an icon of secular democracy in the Indian subcontinent. Hossain currently heads his own law firm in Dhaka, serves as president of the Gano Forum political party, and advocates for democratic reform. His autobiography ''Bangladesh: Quest for Freedom and Justice'' is an important book on Bangladeshi history, particularly regarding the creation of Bangladesh in 1971. Hossain studied in the United States at the University of Notre Dame and in the United Kingdom at the University of Oxford. He was called to the bar of England and Wales in Lincoln's Inn in 1959. Hossain enrolled as an advocate in the High Court of East Pakistan. Reza is a Persian name, originating from the Arabic word , ''Riḍā'', which literally means "the fact of being pleased or contented; contentment, approval". In religious context, this name is interpreted as ''satisfaction'' or "''perfect contentment'' with God's will or decree". 2018 Bangladeshi General Election
General elections were held in Bangladesh on 30 December 2018 to elect 300 directly-elected members of the Jatiya Sangsad. The result was a landslide victory for the Awami League led by Sheikh Hasina. According to political scientist Ali Riaz, the elections were not free and fair. The BBC News reported that they were marred by violence and allegations of vote rigging. Opposition leader Kamal Hossain rejected the results, calling it "farcical" and demanding fresh elections to be held under a neutral government. The Bangladesh Election Commission said it would investigate reported vote-rigging allegations from "across the country." The election saw the use of electronic voting machines for the first time. Jatiya Oikya Front
Jatiya Oikya Front (English: National Unity Front; bn, জাতীয় ঐক্য ফ্রন্ট) was a Bangladesh-based political alliance of primarily four parties led by Kamal Hossain. The front officially declared its formation on October 13, 2018 at the National Press Club ahead of the national election. The front currently comprises Gono Forum, Bangladesh Nationalist Party, Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal-JSD and Nagorik Oikya. Later, on 5 November 2018, Krishak Sramik Janata League, led by Bangabir Kader Siddique joined the front. Abu Sayeed
Abu Sayeed is a politician from Pabna district of Bangladesh, organizer of the War of Liberation, and former Minister of State for Information who was a Member of Parliament for the then Pabna 8 and Pabna-1 constituencies. Career Sayeed was a member of the then Pakistan National Assembly in 1970. He was part of the 34-member committee formed in 1972 to formulate the draft Constitution of Bangladesh. He was designated as the governor of Pabna district by Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in 1975. He has been known for his criticism of the military government. Sayeed was the State Minister of Information of Bangladesh from 6 June 1996 until 15 July 2001. In 2013, Sayeed was conferred a PhD degree by Rajshahi University for his thesis titled "Independence of Bangladesh: Diplomatic War". Saifuddin Ahmed Manik
Saifuddin Ahmed Manik was a Bangladeshi communist politician. Early life Manik was born on 24 June 1939 in Jalpaiguri, West Bengal, British India. After the Partition of India in 1947, his family moved to Gopibagh, Dhaka. He studied and graduated from Muslim Government High School and Dhaka College. He graduated from Dhaka University with a masters in political science. He was a founder of Brothers Union and Chhayanaut. While studying in Dhaka University, he was the general secretary of Sangskriti Sangsad. Abul Maal Abdul Muhith
Abul Maal Abdul Muhith (25 January 1934 – 30 April 2022) was a Bangladeshi economist, writer, civil servant, secretary, diplomat and politician. He served as the Finance Minister of the government of Bangladesh from January 2009 until January 2019. Early life and education Muhith was born on 25 January 1934, to a Bengali Muslim political family in Sylhet. His father, Abu Ahmad Abdul Hafiz, a judge in profession, was one of the founders of the Sylhet branch of the All-India Muslim League and took part in the Pakistan Movement.
