Gangadhar V. Chittal
Gangadhar Vithoba Chittal (1923–1987) was a Kannada poet and recipient of Karnataka Sahitya Academy award. He was the elder brother of Kannada writer Yashwant Vithoba Chittal.He held several administrative positions for the Government of India and audited several Indian Embassies and Consulates. During the Quit India struggle (1942), Chittal amongst several others was debarred from his college due to his participation in the Quit India movement. Born in Bankikodla-Hanehalli, Hanehalli's Chittal Family, Gangadhar Chittal completed primary education in his hometown and Matriculation (S.S.C.) from Gibbs High School, Kumta in 1940 and stood first in the Presidency of Bombay. His achievement was all the more commendable since the then Presidency of Bombay included current states of Maharashtra, Gujarat, part of Karnataka and part of Madhya Pradesh. Subbanna Ekkundi
Subbanna R. Ekkundi (1923–1995) was a recipient of Sahitya Akademi Award, National Aaward for Teacher and Soviet Land Award. Ekkundi was born in Ranebennur of Haveri district in the year 1923. His father was Ranganath and mother was Rajakka. He was a student of literature at Willingdon college, Sangli. At Willingdon, V. K. Gokak and R. S. Mugali were Ekkundi's professors. Ekkundi and Gangadhar V. Chittal from Hanehalli were classmates at Willingdon. After graduating with B.A. (Hons.) Literature in the year 1944, Subbanna Ekkundi joined the Anandashram High School, Bankikodla Ananadasharm High School one of the oldest high schools in Uttar Kannada, was a private school located in Bankikodla-Hanehalli. Kannada Poets
Kannada (; ಕನ್ನಡ, ), originally romanised Canarese, is a Dravidian language spoken predominantly by the people of Karnataka in southwestern India, with minorities in all neighbouring states. It has around 47 million native speakers, and was additionally a second or third language for around 13 million non-native speakers in Karnataka.
