Fraserganj
Fraserganj is a village and a gram panchayat within the jurisdiction of the Namkhana police station in the Namkhana CD block in the Kakdwip subdivision of the South 24 Parganas district in the Indian state of West Bengal. History Sir Andrew Fraser, Lieutenant Governor of Bengal (1903–1908) in the early twentieth century, is credited with the "discovery" of the place. In recognition of his efforts, it was named Frasergunj. There is a dilapidated house near the beach, which according to the locals was the one in which Fraser used to stay. Gobardhanpur
Gobardhanpur is a village within the jurisdiction of the Patharpratima police station in the Patharpratima CD block in the Kakdwip subdivision of the South 24 Parganas district in the Indian state of West Bengal. History “The archaeological findings by villagers at Gobardhanpur and subsequent investigations by archaeologists have indicated a thriving settlement as old as the third century BC.” Semi-precious stone beads of early historic period have been found at Gobardhanpur. A fisherman, Biswajit Sahu, has collected and preserved over the years artefacts during fishing trips to the Dhanchi and Bijwara forests in the tiger reserves area of the Sundarbans. Mythological significance A holy man, Kardam Muni, made a pact with Vishnu that he would undergo the rigours of marital life, on the condition that Vishnu would incarnate as his son. Sagar Island
Sagar Island is an island in the Ganges delta, lying on the Continental Shelf of Bay of Bengal about 100 km (54 nautical miles) south of Kolkata. This island forms the Sagar CD Block in Kakdwip subdivision of South 24 Parganas district in the Indian State of West Bengal. Sundarbans Settlements
The Sundarbans settlements refer to the areas of the Sundarbans that were cleared of forests for human habitation in the present North 24 Paganas and the South 24 Parganas districts in the Indian state of West Bengal. Overview As per the ''District Human Development Report'' for the South 24 Parganas, the Sundarbans area, in the southern part of the erstwhile 24 Parganas district, includes 102 deltaic islands, out of which 54 are inhabited and the rest is reserved forest.
