Gaetano Gandolfi
Gaetano Gandolfi (31 August 1734 – 20 June 1802) was an Italian painter of the late Baroque and early Neoclassic period, active in Bologna. Career Gaetano was born in San Matteo della Decima, near Bologna, to a family of artists. Ubaldo Gandolfi was his brother, Mauro Gandolfi was his son, and Democrito Gandolfi was his grandson. Gaetano became a "student" at the Accademia Clementina in Bologna, where he was taught by Felice Torelli and Ercole Lelli. In the academy, he was the recipient of several prizes for both figure drawing and sculpture. Later, in an autobiography, Gaetano claimed Felice Torelli (1667–1748) as his master. Other sources mention Ercole Graziani the Younger (1688–1765) and Ercole Lelli. He traveled to England, and became strongly influenced by Tiepolo. Among his pupils was Serafino Viani from Reggio. Ubaldo Gandolfi
Ubaldo Gandolfi (1728–1781) was an Italian painter of the late-Baroque period, mainly active in and near Bologna. Biography He was born in San Matteo della Decima and enrolled by the age of 17 at the Clementine Academy, where he apprenticed with Ercole Graziani the Younger, Felice Torelli, and Ercole Lelli. He was from a large family of prolific artists, including his sons Giovanni Battista and Ubaldo Lorenzo, as well as his brother Gaetano and nephews Mauro, Democrito (who became a pupil of Antonio Canova), and niece Clementina. Together, they are considered among the last representatives of the grand manner of painting characteristic of the Bolognese school, that had risen to prominence nearly two centuries earlier with the Carracci. Gandolfi's work ranges from Baroque to Neoclassic styles, and specifically recalls the style of Ludovico Carracci. Javier Marcelo Gandolfi (born 5 December 1980 in San Lorenzo, Santa Fe) is an Argentine football coach and former player who played as a defender. He is the current manager of Talleres. Michael Gandolfi
Michael James Gandolfi (born July 5, 1956) is an American composer of contemporary classical music. He chairs the composition department at the New England Conservatory of Music (NEC). Gandolfi was born in Melrose, Massachusetts. He taught himself guitar as a child, studied for a year at the Berklee College of Music, and then entered NEC, where he earned his bachelor's and master's degrees. In 1986, he was a Fellow at the Tanglewood Music Center, where he studied with Leonard Bernstein and Oliver Knussen. He has served on the faculty of Harvard University, Indiana University, and the Phillips Academy at Andover. He was composer in residence with the New England Philharmonic from 1997-2000. Mauro Gandolfi
Mauro Gandolfi (18 September 1764 – 4 January 1834) was an Italian painter and engraver of the Bolognese School. Personal Gandolfi was from a family of artists. His father was the painter Gaetano Gandolfi, and he had six younger brothers, all painters. He enrolled at age 16 in the French army. In 1791, he was then a student of the Academy of Fine Arts, Bologna and became a collaborator of his father. In 1792 he married Laura Zanetti. Work Gandolfi was promoted to professor at the Academy in 1794. After the turn of the century he switched to engraving. In 1801, he moved to Paris to specialize as an engraver, and created reproductions by engraving the works of French museums. After returning to Italy, he worked as an engraver in Bologna.
