Gamicon
{{coord, 41.663062, -91.538268, type:landmark, display=inline,title Gamicon is Iowa's longest-running non-gambling game convention, currently held at the Marriott Hotel in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Gamicon ALPHA was sponsored by the Science Fiction League of Iowa Students (SFLIS). Gamicon later incorporated as a not-for-profit organization, then merged with the Mindbridge Foundation. Each Gamicon was numbered using the Greek alphabet until Gamicon Omega. After that, the conventions were named by their number on the Periodic Table. Gamicon Gallium will be held on February 25–27, 2022 at the Cedar Rapids Marriott in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Gamicon features board games, card games, role-playing games, miniature games and computer games Gamicon's attendance averages 500-600 attendees, and is the longest running gaming convention in Iowa. ICON (Iowa Science Fiction Convention)
ICON is an annual science fiction convention held in the Cedar Rapids/ Iowa City area of Iowa since 1975, usually in late October or early November, under the auspices of the Mindbridge Foundation, a not-for-profit foundation also responsible for AnimeIowa and Gamicon. The organization was a branching off of the Science Fiction League of Iowa Students, which was founded by author Joe Haldeman. It is the oldest and largest science fiction convention in Iowa. Game Convention
A gaming convention is a gathering centered on role-playing games, collectible card games, miniatures wargames, board games, video games, or other types of games. These conventions are typically two or three days long, and often held at either a university or in a convention center hotel. The largest gaming convention, Spiel, is a trade fair held in Essen, Germany that focuses on German-style board games and RPGs. A similarly large event is ''Festival Ludique International de Parthenay'' (FLIP), a games festival held over twelve days in France. The annual Gamescom in Cologne is the world's leading expo for video games. AnimeIowa is an annual three-day anime convention held during July at the Hyatt Regency Coralville Hotel & Conference Center in Coralville, Iowa. The staff are all volunteers and the convention is run by the non-profit Mindbridge Foundation. Programming The convention typically offers artist alley, cosplay contests, dealers room, Maid Café, masquerade, tabletop gaming, video gaming, and video rooms. In 2011, the Maid Café benefited We Heart Japan, a charity supporting 2011 Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami victims. AnimeIowa held a fundraiser to benefit Swisher's Miracles in Motion in 2014.
