''Gambling on the High Seas'' is a 1940 American drama film remake of '' Special Agent'' (1935), directed by George Amy and written by Robert E. Kent. The film stars Wayne Morris, Jane Wyman, Gilbert Roland, John Litel, Roger Pryor and Frank Wilcox. The film was released by Warner Bros. on June 22, 1940, as a second feature. Plot A reporter tries to implicate a gambling-ship owner for murder. George Amy
George Joseph Amy (October 15, 1903 – December 18, 1986) was an American film editor. He was born in Brooklyn, New York on October 15, 1903, and started his career at the age of 17, finding his niche at Warner Brothers in the 1930s. It was Amy's editing that was one of the main reasons Warners' films got their reputation for their fluid style and breakneck pace. He was a favorite of such top Warners directors as Michael Curtiz and Howard Hawks, and won an Academy Award for Best Film Editing for Hawks' '' Air Force'' (1943). He received Oscar nominations for Curtiz's '' Yankee Doodle Dandy'' in 1942 and Raoul Walsh's fanciful war film '' Objective, Burma!'' in 1945. Although Amy directed several shorts and a few features (including ''She Had to Say Yes'') on his own for Warners, they didn't meet with much success. Frank Ferguson
Frank S. Ferguson (December 25, 1906 – September 12, 1978) was an American character actor with hundreds of appearances in both film and television. Background Ferguson was the younger of two children of W. Thomas Ferguson, a native Scottish merchant, and his American wife Annie Boynton. He grew up in his native Ferndale. He graduated from Ferndale Union High School in 1927. He earned a bachelor's degree in speech and drama at the University of California and a master's degree from Cornell University. He also taught at UCLA and Cornell. As a young man, he became connected with Gilmor Brown, the founder and director of the Pasadena Community Playhouse, and became one of its first directors. He directed as well as acted in many plays there. He also taught at the Playhouse. He made his film debut in 1939 in ''Gambling on the High Seas'' (released in 1940), and appeared in nearly 200 feature films and hundreds of TV episodes subsequently. Murray Alper (January 11, 1904 – November 16, 1984) was an American actor. He appeared in numerous television series, films, and Broadway productions. Biography Born in New York City in 1904, Alper worked on Broadway from 1927 to 1940 in a number of shows including ''The Wild Man of Borneo'', ''This is New York'', ''Broadway Boy'', ''Sailor Beware!'', and ''Every Man for Himself''.
