Gama, Federal District
Gama is an administrative region in the Federal District in Brazil. History In August 1746, pioneer Antônio Bueno de Avezedo left Paracatu, Minas Gerais, leading a large group to the northwest. After having gone through rivers, tablelands and large brooks, on August 13 he arrived at a brook where he found gold. He founded a village, which he named “Santa Luzia”, paying homage to the saint of the day. This brook was known as “Rio Vermelho” (Red River), in reference to the waters, loamy due to gold washing. Santa Luzia village grew into today's Luziânia, Goiás. By early 1747, the first clergyman, Luís da Gama Mendonça, had arrived at Santa Luiz, at Bueno’s request. It’s supposed that, in homage to the clergyman, the region was named “Gama”. Luziânia
Luziânia is municipality in the state of Goiás, Brazil. This city is a producer of agricultural products including soybeans and beans. Location Luziânia is located 68 km south of Brasília and is part of the area, called Entorno do Distrito Federal. Although the city has existed as a settlement since colonial days, its rapid growth occurred in the eighties and nineties with the population explosion of the federal capital and the need for less expensive living areas outside the planned city. The municipality is limited in the north by Valparaíso de Goiás and Novo Gama; in the south by Orizona and Ipameri; in the west by Santo Antônio do Descoberto, Alexânia, and Silvânia; and in the east by Cristalina. Sociedade Esportiva do Gama, commonly referred to as Gama, is a Brazilian professional club based in Gama, Distrito Federal founded on 15 November 1975. It competes in the Campeonato Brasiliense, the top flight of the Distrito Federal state football league. Gama is the second-best ranked team from the Federal District in CBF's national club ranking, behind bitter rivals Brasiliense. History Until the early 1970s, the city of Gama was known only to its amateur teams. This movement has grown more and more the city's desire to have its first professional football club. Founded in 1975 by Hermínio Ferreira Neves, the Sociedade Esporte do Gama was the first professional team in the city. The founder was president of the amateur team Minas Atlético Clube.
