Galway–Kildare Gaelic Football Rivalry
The Galway-Kildare rivalry is a Gaelic football rivalry between Irish county teams Galway and Kildare, who first played each other in 1919. The fixture has been an infrequent one in the history of the championship, however, the rivalry intensified during a series of championship encounters between 1998 and 2000. Galway's home ground is Pearse Stadium and Kildare's home ground is St. Conleth's Park, however, all of their championship meetings have been held at neutral venues, usually Croke Park. While Galway have the highest number of Connacht titles and have the third most All Ireland titles. Kildare lie in third position behind Dublin and Meath on the roll of honour in Leinster, they have also enjoyed success in the All-Ireland Senior Football Championship, having won 13 championship titles between them to date. Connacht Senior Football Championship
The Connacht Senior Football Championship is an annual Gaelic football competition for the senior county teams of Connacht GAA. All of the counties of Connacht participate in the championship, as well as counties London and New York. The winning team receives the Nestor Cup. The Connacht Senior Football Championship is run on a knock-out basis in which once a team loses they are eliminated from the competition. A series of games are played during the summer months and the final is played in June or July. The winner progresses directly to the All-Ireland Super 8s, while losing teams progress to the All-Ireland Qualifiers (before 2001 the All-Ireland was a straight knock-out format meaning all losing teams were eliminated after a single defeat). 2000 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship
The 2000 Bank of Ireland All-Ireland Senior Football Championship was the 114th edition of the GAA's premier Gaelic football competition. The championship began on 7 May 2000 and ended on 7 October 2000. Meath entered the championship as the defending champions; however, they were beaten by Offaly in the Leinster quarter-final. On 24 September 2000, the All-Ireland final between Kerry and Galway ended in a draw, 0-14 apiece. Kerry won the replay two weeks later by 0–17 to 1-10, thus claiming their 32nd All-Ireland title. This was the final year that the provincial knockout format was used, before the qualifier system was introduced in 2001. 1998 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship
The 1998 Bank of Ireland All-Ireland Senior Football Championship was the 112th edition of the GAA's premier Gaelic football competition. The championship began on 3 May 1998 and ended on 27 September 1998. Galway's 1-14 to 1-10 victory over Kildare in the All-Ireland final meant that the Sam Maguire Cup returned to the county and the province of Connacht for the first time since 1966. This was Galway's eighth All-Ireland triumph in all. Kildare, managed by Mick O'Dwyer, had defeated the 1995 champions Dublin and the 1996 champions Meath to win their first Leinster title since 1956, before defeating the 1997 champions Kerry in the All-Ireland semi-final. The All-Ireland Senior Football Championship (SFC) ( ga, Craobh Shinsir Peile na hÉireann) is the premier competition in Gaelic football. The Leinster Senior Football Championship, known simply as the Leinster Championship and shortened to Leinster SFC, is an annual inter-county Gaelic football competition organised by the Leinster Council of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA). Croke Park ( ga, Páirc an Chrócaigh, ) is a Gaelic games stadium in Dublin, Ireland. Named after Archbishop Thomas Croke, it is referred to as Croker by GAA fans and locals. Pearse Stadium ( ga, Páirc an Phiarsaigh) is the principal GAA stadium in Galway, Ireland. The Galway GAA Gaelic football and hurling teams use the stadium for their home games.
