Raccoon Township is one of the fifteen townships of Gallia County, Ohio, United States. As of the 2010 census the population was 2,228, of whom 1,295 lived in the unincorporated portions of the township. Kyger Creek High School
Kyger Creek High School was a public high school located outside of the village of Cheshire, at the intersection of Little Kyger and Gravel Hill roads in northern Gallia County, Ohio (USA). It replaced Cheshire High School in 1956 and was in turn replaced by River Valley High School in 1992. History The Kyger Creek Local School District was formed by the consolidation of four rural school districts—Cheshire, Kyger, Addison, and Bulaville. Each of these districts had an elementary school, but only Cheshire had a high school. It was located in the village of Cheshire in a building shared with the elementary school. Three new facilities were constructed replacing all previously existing buildings. The new high school, very modern for its time, was located about two miles outside the village of Cheshire, and was given the name Kyger Creek High School. South Gallia High School (Crown City, Ohio)
South Gallia High School is a public high school in Mercerville, Ohio United States. Because Mercerville does not have its own US Post Office, its mailing address is considered Crown City, despite being 7 miles north of Crown City. It is one of two high schools in the Gallia County Local School District, the other school being River Valley High School. The South Gallia nickname is the Rebels. South Gallia School colors are Red, Gold, and White. The school opened in 1996 after a de-consolidation. River Valley High School is a public high school near Bidwell, in the U.S. state of Ohio. It is one of two high schools in the Gallia County Local School District, the other school being South Gallia High School. Their nickname is the Raiders. The school has been rated "Excellent" two years in a row on the state report card making it one of the highest ranked schools within several counties. In August 2009 the current RVHS facility was officially opened, taking the place of the previous RVHS located in nearby Cheshire. The new location places River Valley High School just a short distance from its main feeder school, River Valley Middle School (formerly known as Bidwell-Porter Elementary). Bidwell is a small unincorporated community in northwestern Springfield Township, Gallia County, Ohio, United States, and is often associated with the nearby community of Porter. Although unincorporated, it has its own ZIP Code of 45614. Bidwell is located eleven miles from the county seat, Gallipolis, at an elevation of 682 feet (208 m). Cheshire is a village in Gallia County, Ohio, United States, along the Ohio River. The population was 132 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Point Pleasant, WV–OH Micropolitan Statistical Area. History Cheshire, Ohio, was named for the county of Cheshire in England. Town buyout by American Electric Power By 2000, the village was plagued by toxic sulfurous gas clouds and acid rain from the nearby coal-fired Gavin Power Plant. Residents hired lawyers requesting a buyout. The plant's owner, American Electric Power (AEP), investigated the claims and found that no long-term injuries/illnesses resulted from the cloud but decided it could use the land to expand plant property for future technologies.
