Galli
A ''gallus'' (pl. ''galli'') was a eunuch priest of the Phrygian goddess Cybele (Magna Mater in Rome) and her consort Attis, whose worship was incorporated into the state religious practices of ancient Rome. Origins Cybele's cult may have originated in Mesopotamia, arriving in Greece around 300 BCE. It originally kept its sacred symbol, a black meteorite, in a temple called the Megalesion in Pessinus in modern Turkey. The earliest surviving references to the galli come from the ''Greek Anthology'', a 10th-century compilation of earlier material, where several epigrams mention or clearly allude to their castrated state. Stephanus Byzantinus (6th century CE) said the name came from King Gallus, while Ovid (43 BC – 17 CE) said it derived from the Gallus river in Phrygia. The same word (''gallus'' singular, ''galli'' plural) was used by the Romans to refer to Celts and to roosters, and the latter especially was a source of puns. Jessica Galli
Jessica Galli (born December 1, 1983) is a female wheelchair racing athlete. Raised in Hillsborough Township, New Jersey, Galli has participated in the 2000, 2004, and 2008 Paralympic Games. At the 2000 Sydney Paralympic Games she won the silver medal in the 800 meter T53 female wheelchair race. Galli set a world record holder in the T53 400 m race with a time of 55.82 at the 2007 European Wheelchair Championships on June 7 in Pratteln, Switzerland. In January 2008, she was named the United States Olympic Committee's 2007 Paralympian of the Year. That summer, Galli was nominated for an ESPY Award for ''Best Female Athlete With A Disability''. At the 2008 Summer Paralympics in September, she won five medals: 1 gold, 3 silver, and 1 bronze. Galli is a paraplegic as a result of a September 1991 car accident when she was 7 years old. Nanni Galli
Giovanni Giuseppe Gilberto "Nanni" Galli (2 October 1940 – 12 October 2019) was an Italian saloon, sports-car and Formula One driver of the 1960s and 1970s. Born in Bologna, Galli started his career in Endurance racing (motorsport), endurance racing. He won the Circuit of Mugello race in 1968 and finished second in the Targa Florio (with Ignazio Giunti) the same year. In the 1968 24 Hours of Le Mans, Galli and Giunti finished 4th in an Alfa Romeo T33/2. The following year at Le Mans, he shared a drive with Robin Widdows and they finished 7th in a Equipe Matra Sports, Matra. Galli's final appearance at Le Mans was in 1970, where he shared a Alfa Romeo T33/3 with Rolf Stommelen. Lorenzo Galli (born 1979) is a retired Italian alpine skier. Career He made his World Cup debut in January 1997 in Chamonix, later collecting his first World Cup points with a 25th place in February 1997 in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. He later tied this career best, before also improving to a 19th place in December 1998 in Val d'Isere. In the 1999–2000 season he also tied this, in January 2000 in Wengen, before improving to 17th in March 2000 in Kvitfjell, then 15th in December 2000 in Val d'Isere. Gianluigi Galli (born 13 January 1973), better known as Gigi Galli, is an Italian rally driver, best known for his spectacular driving style. He comes from, and lives in Livigno, Italy. Career Galli debuted in the World Rally Championship at the 1998 San Remo Rally with a Group N Mitsubishi Carisma GT. His first world rally with a WRC car was the 2004 Monte Carlo Rally. In 2005, Galli drove for Mitsubishi and competed in 13 events with a Mitsubishi Lancer WRC05. He finished 11th in the drivers' world championship. Giovanni Galli (; born 29 April 1958) is an Italian former professional footballer who played as a goalkeeper, and currently a politician. In a professional career which spanned nearly two decades, he played in 496 Serie A games, mainly with Fiorentina (nine seasons) and Milan (four), winning six major titles with the latter club.
