Galleria Mavericks
Saracens Mavericks is an English netball team based at the University of Hertfordshire in Hatfield. Their senior team plays in the Netball Superleague. In 2005–06 they were founder members of the league. They were Superleague champions in 2007–08 and 2011. Due to various sponsorship deals and partnership arrangements, the team has played under several different names. Between 2005–06 and 2008–09 they played as Galleria Mavericks. Between 2009–10 and 2017 they played as Hertfordshire Mavericks. During this era they were also referred to as University of Hertfordshire Mavericks. During the 2018 season they played as benecosMavericks. They adopted their current name in 2019 after forming a partnership with the rugby union club, Saracens F.C. Brunel Hurricanes
Surrey Storm is an English netball team based at the University of Surrey. Their senior team plays in the Netball Superleague. Between 2001 and 2005 they played in the Super Cup as London Hurricanes. After forming a partnership with Brunel University London, they became the Brunel Hurricanes. In 2005–06 they were founder members of the new Netball Superleague. Before the 2009–10 Netball Superleague season, they ended their partnership with Brunel University, relocated to the University of Surrey and became Surrey Storm. 2011 Netball Superleague Grand Final
The 2011 Netball Superleague season, 2011 Netball Superleague Grand Final featured Hertfordshire Mavericks and Surrey Storm. Mavericks would win their second title. This was Mavericks sixth successive grand final while Surrey Storm's were making their debut appearance. Between 2011 and 2016 Netball Superleague Grand Final, 2016 Surrey Storm would play in five out of the six Netball Superleague grand finals. However in their first three they finished as runners up. Karen Atkinson (netball)
Karen Helen Atkinson (née Aspinall; born 7 June 1978) is an English netball coach and former international netball player. Atkinson first represented England in netball in 1994, and was selected for the senior England team in 1997. During her international career, she has won bronze medals at three Commonwealth Games (1998, 2006 and 2010), as well as in the 1999 Netball World Championships. She also won silver with the England team at the 2010 World Netball Series in Liverpool. In domestic netball, Atkinson played for the Hertfordshire Mavericks in the Netball Superleague, after having played an initial season with the Loughborough Lightning. She also played one season of the National Bank Cup in New Zealand with the Capital Shakers (2004), and one season in the Australasian ANZ Championship with the West Coast Fever (2008). Amanda Newton (netball)
Amanda Newton (born 8 April 1977) is a former England netball international. She was a member of the England teams that won bronze medals at the 1998 Commonwealth Games and at the 1999 World Netball Championships. She captained England at the 2007 World Netball Championships. Between 2001 and 2010 she played in seven senior finals and won four national titles with three different teams – London Tornadoes, Northern Thunder and Mavericks. Early life and education Newton is originally from the Forest Gate/Newham area of East London. She attended St Angela's Ursuline School and Sixth Form where she first began to play netball seriously. In her youth Newton played for the Plaistow-based Old Plaistovians Association. Louisa Brownfield
Louisa Brownfield (born 14 April 1984), also known as Louisa Watson, is a former England netball international. She was a member of the England teams that won bronze medals at the 2006 and 2010 Commonwealth Games and at the 2011 World Netball Championships. Between 2006 and 2015, Brownfield also played for Mavericks in seven Netball Superleague grand finals, helping them win two titles in 2007–08 and 2011. 2008 Netball Superleague Grand Final
The 2008 Netball Superleague Grand Final featured Galleria Mavericks and Loughborough Lightning. Having played in both the 2006 and 2007 grand finals, this was Mavericks' third successive grand final appearance. It proved third time lucky for Mavericks who defeated Lightning 43–39. Lightning were leading 21–14 at half time thanks to an outstanding shooting performance from 19-year-old Joanne Harten. However Mavericks, inspired by Louisa Brownfield and Karen Atkinson, subsequently began to create more shooting opportunities. Mavericks defence – Amanda Newton, Clare Elsley and Naomi Siddall – also played a vital part in a second half fight back. The Galleria, Hatfield
The Galleria is a designer outlet centre in Hatfield, Hertfordshire, England. History The center was developed in the 1980s as part of a plan to reduce congestion in Hatfield while increasing retail space. The A1(M), a bypass of the old Great North Road from London, was built as a cut-and-cover tunnel with The Galleria on top. It was a project of Gerald Carroll's Carroll Group and was budgeted at £50 million but cost £90 million by the time it was finished, 18 months late. Carroll refinanced the project and injected £30 million. It opened in 1991, but banker Samuel Montagu placed the scheme in receivership in 1992. Team Northumbria is an English netball team based at Northumbria University. Between 2001 and 2005 they played in the Super Cup as Northern Flames. They also played as Team Northumbria Flames. Between 2005–06 and 2018, their senior team played in the Netball Superleague. The netball team is one of several sports teams based at Northumbria University that use the Team Northumbria brand name. Others include an association football team and a basketball team. Team Bath is an English netball team based at the University of Bath. Their senior team plays in the Netball Superleague. In 2005–06 they were both founder members and the inaugural champions of the league.
