Galician People's Party
The Galician People's Party ( gl, Partido Popular Galego, gl, Partido Popular Gallego, PPG) was a Galician political party in the first years of the Spanish democracy. History It was founded in July 1976 as a result of the union of the Democratic Union of Galicia, led by Xaime Illa Couto, and the Galician Democratic Left, led by Fernando García Agudín. They participated in the activities of the Christian Democratic Team of the Spanish State, but they didn't enter it. In the general elections of 1977 it allied with the Galician Social Democratic Party. It disappeared in 1979. Some of its members joined the Partido Galeguista and others the Democratic Center Union. People's Party (Spain)
The People's Party ( es, Partido Popular ; known mostly by its acronym, PP ) is a conservative and Christian-democratic political party in Spain. The People's Party was a 1989 re-foundation of People's Alliance (AP), a party led by former minister of the dictatorship Manuel Fraga and founded back in 1976 as alliance of post-Francoist proto-parties. The new party combined the conservative AP with several small Christian democratic and liberal parties (the party call this fusion of views "the Reformist Centre"). In 2002, Manuel Fraga received the honorary title of "Founding Chairman". The party's youth organization is New Generations of the People's Party of Spain (NNGG). The PP is a member of the centre-right European People's Party (EPP), and in the European Parliament its 16 MEPs sit in the EPP Group. The Union of the Democratic Centre (, UCD, also translated as "Democratic Centre Union") was an electoral alliance, and later political party, in Spain, existing from 1977 to 1983. It was initially led by Adolfo Suárez. History The coalition, in fact a federation of parties, was formed on 3 May 1977, during the transition to democracy from the dictatorship of Francisco Franco, with the involvement of leaders from a variety of newly formed centrist and rightist factions, under the leadership of Suárez, then Prime Minister. Partido Galeguista (1979)
The Partido Galeguista ( en, Galicianist Party) was a Galician party founded in 1978, referring to itself as the historical descendant of the Partido Galeguista in the Second Spanish Republic (1931-1939). History After the electoral failure of the coalition of the Galician People's Party and the Galician Social-Democratic Party, members of both decided to re-form the Partido Galeguista, convoking a conference in November 1978. In the Spanish General and regional elections of 1979, the party formed a coalition called the Unidade Galega and supported a "Yes" vote in the referendum for the Statute that granted autonomy to Galicia in 1980. At the Party conference in June 1981, the Partido Galeguista's policies took a right-wing turn, and Álvarez Gándara was chosen as president. Galician Social Democratic Party
The Galician Social Democratic Party (PGSD, ''Partido Galego Social Demócrata'' in Galician language) was a Galician political party with a Galician nationalist and social democratic ideology. It was founded under the name of ''Galician Social-Democratic Union'' in March 1974, led by Xosé Luís Fontela and Alfonso Zulueta de Haz. The PGSD just had some relevant presence in the cities. The PGSD was part of the Council of the Galician Political Forces (CFPG, 1976), leaving the council, along with the Galician People's Union in 1977, due to disagreements on the acceptance of the Communist Movement of Galicia in the CFPG. The PGSD concurred in coalition with the Galician People's Party (PPG) in the Spanish general election of 1977. The poor results (23,014 votes, 2.04% of the vote in Galicia) led to the formation of a new party formed by the PGSD and PPG, the new Partido Galeguista, and the disappearance of PGSD. Spanish General Election, 1977
The 1977 Spanish general election was held on Wednesday, 15 June 1977, to elect the Spanish Cortes of the Kingdom of Spain. All 350 seats in the Congress of Deputies were up for election, as well as all 207 seats in the Senate. It was the first free election held in Spain since 1936, prior to the outbreak of the Spanish Civil War. It was called by Prime Minister Adolfo Suárez as part of the political reform of the Francoist regime, ongoing since shortly after Francisco Franco's death in 1975 and promoted by his successor, King Juan Carlos I. Its aim was to elect a Constituent Cortes that was to draft a new constitution, which would ultimately lead to the repealing of the Fundamental Laws of the Realm and the culmination of the country's transition to democracy. Christian Democratic Team of the Spanish State (in Spanish: ''Equipo Demócrata Cristiano del Estado Español'', EDCEE) was a political alliance of the Democratic Union of Catalonia, the Federation of Christian Democracy (composed of Democratic Left of Ruiz Giménez and the Democratic People's Federation of Gil Robles, formed in January 1976) and other regional parties. The Democratic Left ( es, Izquierda Democrática, ID) was a Christian left political party in Spain. It was formed by people from the anti-Francoist opposition, like Gregorio Peces-Barba or Joaquín Ruíz-Giménez. The party had two main internal factions: the social democratic one and the Christian democratic one. History ID was officially constituted in April 1976 at El Escorial, under the leadership of Joaquín Ruiz-Giménez and José Maria Gil-Robles. Xaime Illa Couto
Jaime (sometimes spelled Xaime) Hernandez (born 1959) is the co-creator of the alternative comic book '' Love and Rockets'' with his brothers Gilbert and Mario. Early life Jaime Hernandez grew up in Oxnard, California.Aldama, p. 119. He is the youngest of his family, with four older brothers and one sister. His family embraced comics: their mother read them frequently and old issues were kept in large quantities in the house, to be read and re-read by all over the years. "We grew up with comics," Hernandez said. "I wanted to draw comics my whole life." They read all types of comics and enjoyed those that gave a fairly realistic depiction of family life as well as the standard superhero adventures. Hernandez was particularly influenced by Hank Ketcham's ''Dennis the Menace'' and Dan DeCarlo's ''Archie''' comics.
