Galeria Luisa Strina is an art gallery founded by art collector Luisa Malzone Strina. The main gallery and its annex are located in São Paulo, Brasil. It is the oldest art gallery of contemporary art in Brazil. History The gallery opened in 1974, with an inaugural exhibition in the same year, with the participation of artists such as Carlos Fajardo, Edo Rocha, José de Moura Resende Filho, Luiz Paulo Baravelli, Nelson Leirner, Rubens Gerchman, Santuza Andrade, and Wesley Duke Lee. Galeria Luisa Strina was the first Latin American gallery to be invited to the art fair Art Basel, located in Basel, Switzerland, em 1992. Art Gallery
An art gallery is a room or a building in which visual art is displayed. In Western cultures from the mid-15th century, a gallery was any long, narrow covered passage along a wall, first used in the sense of a place for art in the 1590s. The long gallery in Elizabethan and Jacobean houses served many purposes including the display of art. Historically, art is displayed as evidence of status and wealth, and for religious art as objects of ritual or the depiction of narratives. The first galleries were in the palaces of the aristocracy, or in churches. As art collections grew, buildings became dedicated to art, becoming the first art museums. Among the modern reasons art may be displayed are aesthetic enjoyment, education, historic preservation, or for marketing purposes. The term is used to refer to establishments with distinct social and economic functions, both public and private. Fernanda Gomes
Fernanda Gomes (born 1960) is a Brazilian visual artist. She emerged as part of the generation of Rio de Janeiro-born artists that also include Beatriz Milhazes, Ernesto Neto and Adriana Varejão. With a career that began in the 1980s, her first solo exhibition took place in London in 1997. Gomes creates art with all kinds of leftover materials: everyday objects, old furniture, glasses, mirrors, magnets, various types of string, hair, cigarette ends, coins and newspaper. Exhibitions include a solo exhibit at Pimenta Palace, Pavilhão Branco - Museu da Cidade, Lisbon, Portugal as well as group shows at Museum of Modern Art, Rio de Janeiro, Museu de Arte Moderna do Rio de Janeiro and Oficina para Proyectos de Arte A.C., Guadalajara, Mexico. Robert Rauschenberg
Milton Ernest "Robert" Rauschenberg (October 22, 1925 – May 12, 2008) was an American painter and graphic artist whose early works anticipated the Pop art movement. Rauschenberg is well known for his Combines (1954–1964), a group of artworks which incorporated everyday objects as art materials and which blurred the distinctions between painting and sculpture. Rauschenberg was both a painter and a sculptor, but he also worked with photography, printmaking, papermaking and performance. Rauschenberg received numerous awards during his nearly 60-year artistic career. Among the most prominent were the International Grand Prize in Painting at the 32nd Venice Biennale in 1964 and the National Medal of Arts in 1993. Rauschenberg lived and worked in New York City and on Captiva Island, Florida, until his death on May 12, 2008.
