Galen Catholic College is a Roman Catholicism in Australia, Roman Catholic co-educational Secondary school, high school located in Wangaratta, Victoria (Australia), Victoria, Australia. The College is affiliated with the Association of Marist Schools of Australia. History The college was established in 1974, by the Marist Brothers, as Galen College, a senior campus (Yrs 11 and 12) for both male and female students. Most of its students came from the long-established St Joseph's Girls College and Champagnat Boys College, an agricultural boarding school; these two schools amalgamated and formed the current Galen College. By 1983, Galen was operating as a full Year 7 -12, co-educational college. Sport The school is a member of the Catholic All Schools Sports Association (CAS). Wangaratta ( ) is a city in the northeast of Victoria, Australia, from Melbourne along the Hume Highway. The city had an estimated urban population of 19,318 at June 2018. Yarrawonga is a town in the Shire of Moira local government area in the Australian state of Victoria. The town is situated on the south bank of the Murray River, the border between Victoria and New South Wales, and is located approximately north-east of the state capital, Melbourne. Jarrad Waite (born 4 February 1983) is a former professional Australian rules footballer who played for the Carlton Football Club and North Melbourne Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL). AFL career Carlton (2003–2014) Born in Devonport, Tasmania, Waite was recruited as the number 46 draft pick in the 2001 AFL draft from Benalla under the father-son selection rule (he is the son of former Carlton player Vin Waite). He made his debut for Carlton in round 1, 2003 against the Sydney Swans. Sam Reid (born 27 December 1991) is an Australian rules footballer who plays for the Sydney Swans in the Australian Football League (AFL). He was drafted to Sydney with the 38th selection in the 2009 AFL draft, becoming a third generation footballer at AFL/VFL level. Ben Reid (born 29 April 1989) is a former Australian rules footballer who played for Collingwood in the Australian Football League (AFL). Personal life Reid grew up in Wangaratta Victoria, attending Galen Catholic College. He is the son of former Footscray and Carlton player, Bruce Reid. Chris Naish (born 27 September 1971) is a former Australian rules football player who played in the Australian Football League (AFL), for Richmond Football Club from 1990 to 1997 and Port Adelaide from 1998 to 1999.
