Galaxie Corporation was a private cargo airline in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), operating as Kavatshi Airlines. The airline is on the List of air carriers banned in the European Union. Incidents and accidents * On 5 September 2005, an Antonov An-26B arriving from Beni and approaching Runway 31 in fog struck a tree, crashed 1.5 kilometers (0.9 mile) short of the runway, and burned at Isiro's Matari Airport in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, killing all 11 people (four crew members and seven passengers) on board. The aircraft, bearing (Moldova registration ER-AZT), was wet leased from Aerocom in November 2003. The European Union (EU) publishes a list of air carriers that are banned from entering the airspace of any of its member states, usually for failing to meet EU regulatory oversight standards. The first version of the list was published in 2006, on the legal basis of Regulation No. 474/2006 of the European Commission, issued on 22 March of that year. The current version of the list was published on 23 November 2022. Legal procedure The process by which an air carrier is listed is laid out in Regulation (EC) No 2111/2005 of the European Parliament and Council. Beni, Democratic Republic Of The Congo
Beni is a city in north eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo, lying immediately west of the Virunga National Park and the Rwenzori Mountains, on the edge of the Ituri Forest. Overview Beni is home to a market, an airport and the Christian Bilingual University of Congo (UCBC). As of 2013 it had an estimated population of 231,952. Beni contains four ''communes'', or municipalities: Beni, Bungulu, Ruwenzori and Mulekera. The town was the scene of fierce fighting in the Second Congo War around 2001. Beni also has many MONUC bases; elements of the Indian-led North Kivu Brigade are based in the town. Isiro (pronounced ) is the capital of Haut-Uele Province in the northeastern part of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. It lies between the equatorial forest and the savannah and its main resource is coffee. Isiro's population is estimated at approximately 182,000. Most people speak, Pa-Zande (Zande language), Lingala, Swahili and which is somehow uncommon. Aircraft leases are leases used by airlines and other aircraft operators. Airlines lease aircraft from other airlines or leasing companies for two main reasons: to operate aircraft without the financial burden of buying them, and to provide temporary increase in capacity. Aerocom was an airline based in Chişinău, Moldova. It was suspected to be involved in illegal weapons trade, which ultimately led to the airline being shut down in 2004.
