''Gajamukta'' is a 1994 Bengali adventure drama film directed by Ajit Lahiri and produced by Dilip Sur based on a same name novel of Narayan Sanyal published in 1961. This is the debut film of Riya Sen in Bengali film as a child artist. Music of the movie was scored by Bhupen Hazarika. Plot This is the story of hunting elephant for yearly ritual in Assam. Narayan Sanyal
Narayan Sanyal (26 April 1924 – 7 February 2005) was an Indian writer of modern Bengali literature as well as a civil engineer. Biography Narayan Sanyal was born in Krishnagar to Chittasukh Sanyal and Basantalata Devi. His name was initially Narayandas Sanyal in school life. His family consisted of wife Sabita Sanyal; elder daughter Anindita Basu, son-in-law Amitabha Basu, son Tirtharenu Sanyal, daughter-in-law Sharmila Sanyal, younger daughter Mou Sanyal Talukdar, son-in-law Soumitra Talukdar. His granddaughter is Ayoshi Talukdar. Although Sanyal is known mostly as a novelist, he was also an eminent civil engineer by profession. Riya Sen
Riya Sen (born Riya Dev Varma; 24 January 1981) is an Indian actress and model. who predominantly appears in Hindi, Bengali, English, Telugu and Tamil films. Sen comes from a royal background; her father Bharat Dev Varma hails from the royal family of Tripura. He was the son of Ila Devi, a princess of Cooch Behar and nephew of Maharani Gayatri Devi of Jaipur. Sen's mother Moon Moon Sen and grandmother Suchitra Sen were reputed veteran actresses. Basabi Nandi
Basabi Nandi (5 December 1935 – 22 July 2018) was an Indian actress and singer active in the Bengali cinema. She received Best Supporting Actress Award by Bengal Film Journalists' Association for the movie Bon Palashir Padabali in 1974. Career Nandi was born in 1935 in British India. Her father B.L. Nandi was a reputed doctor in Dhaka. She completed her schooling from United Missionary Girls High School, Kolkata thereafter passed I.A. from Ashutosh College. Nandi was interested in songs and classical dances since childhood. She learned Bengali songs from Satinath Mukhopadhay and Utpala Sen, and took lessons from Gavindan Kutty. Ananta Singh picked Nandi for his movie ''Jamalaye Jibanta Manush'' in 1958 which was a breakthrough in her career. She also acted with Uttam Kumar in a few films. Abhishek Chatterjee
Abhishek Chatterjee (30 April 1964 – 24 March 2022) was an Indian actor who was known for his work in Bengali cinema. Thomas Beach Alter (22 June 1950 – 29 September 2017) was an Indian actor. He was best known for his works in Hindi cinema, and Indian theatre. In 2008, he was awarded the Padma Shri by the Government of India. Early life Born in Mussoorie in present-day Uttarakhand, Alter was the son of American Presbyterian missionaries of English, Scottish and Swiss German ancestry and lived for years in Mumbai and the Himalayan hill station of Landour. His grandparents migrated to Madras, India from Ohio, U.S., in November 1916. From there, they moved to and settled in Lahore, in present-day Pakistan. His father was born in Sialkot. Gyanesh Mukherjee (5 July 1926 – 8 May 2008) was a Bengali actor, director and theater personality. Career He was involved with Indian People's Theatre Association (IPTA). In his film career, Mukherjee worked with number of famous directors like Ritwik Ghatak, Mrinal Sen and Tapan Sinha. Since late 50s to 70s, he played prolific role in cinema as well as theater. Biju Phukan; 18 February 1947 – 22 November 2017) was an Assamese actor. He was born in Dibrugarh, India, where he studied in the Dibrugarh HS Kanoi College and Dibrugarh Govt boys' higher secondary school Dibrugarh. He appeared in more than eighty Assamese feature films. His first movie was '' Dr. Bezbarua'' (1970). His first role as leading actor was in ''Baruar Songshar'' followed by ''Aranya'' which established him as a 'hero'.
