Gadi Brumer
Gadi Brumer ( he, גדי ברומר; born 5 November 1973) is a former Israeli professional footballer who played for Maccabi Tel Aviv. Career Brumer (who played at centre-back and sweeper positions), is notable for playing his entire career for Maccabi Tel Aviv (see List of one-club men), and was famous not only for his intelligence in defence, but also for his fighting spirit and his commitment, having often played whilst injured. Brumer was summoned to a trial with Manchester United in June 1996, thus becoming the first and only Israeli to be on trial with the club. Though he was good in the trial, Manchester preferred Norwegian Ronny Johnsen. Brumer was offered contracts from other teams in the Premier League, but decided to hold out for a big club which never happened and Brumer continued with his home club. The Israel Toto Cup ( he, גביע הטוטו, ''Gvia Ha'Toto'') is an association football tournament that features clubs in the two highest divisions in Israel: the Israeli Premier League ( Ligat Ha'Al), and the second division Liga Leumit. From 1999 to 2009, the tournament was also open to clubs from the third division, until the cancellation of Liga Artzit. The Israel State Cup ( he, גביע המדינה, ''Gvia HaMedina''), is a knockout cup competition in Israeli football, run by the Israel Football Association (IFA). The State Cup was first held in 1928 as the People's Cup. Because it involves clubs of all standards playing against each other, there is the possibility for "minnows" from the lower divisions to become "giant-killers" by eliminating top clubs from the tournament, although lower division teams rarely reach the final. The current holders of the State Cup are the Israeli Premier League club Hapoel Haifa, who beat Beitar Jerusalem in the 2018 final on May 9, 2018. The association football champions of Israel are the winners of the highest league in Israeli football, which is currently the Israeli Premier League. The league is contested on a round robin basis and the championship awarded to the team that is top of the league at the end of the season.
