Gad Machnes (גד מכנס; born 8 June 1956) is a retired Israeli footballer. Soccer career Machnes played as a defender for Maccabi Netanya, Maccabi Petah Tikva (loan), Hapoel Tel Aviv, Maccabi Petah Tikva, Hapoel Hadera, and Beitar Netanya. He earned a gold medal playing for Team Israel at the 1977 Maccabiah Games. He also played 21 caps for the Israel national football team from 1978-85. He worked as the manager of Beitar Tubruk in Liga Gimel. Netanya (also known as Natanya, he, נְתַנְיָה) is a city in the Northern Central District of Israel, and is the capital of the surrounding Sharon plain. It is north of Tel Aviv, and south of Haifa, between Poleg stream and Wingate Institute in the south and the Avihayil stream in the north. The Betar Movement ( he, תנועת בית"ר), also spelled Beitar (), is a Revisionist Zionist youth movement founded in 1923 in Riga, Latvia, by Vladimir (Ze'ev) Jabotinsky. Chapters sprang up across Europe, even during World War II. After the war and during the settlement of what became Israel, Betar was traditionally linked to the original Herut and then Likud political parties of Jewish pioneers. It was closely affiliated with the pre-Israel Revisionist Zionist paramilitary group Irgun Zevai Leumi. It was one of many right-wing movements and youth groups arising at that time that adopted special salutes and uniforms. Gad Machnes (13 August 1893 – 7 March 1954) was an Israeli politician and businessman. He was an orientalist in the Arab Affairs Department at the Jewish Agency as part of the Palestine Jewish ''Yishuv'' during the British Mandate of Palestine. Machnes was born and raised in Petah Tikva and participated in Jewish pioneering efforts prior to Israeli independence. He was a member of the third transformation of the Israeli Transfer committee from August 1948 renamed as the Committee for Arab affairs along with Yosef Weitz, Ezra Danin, Yaacov Shimoni and Zalman Lifshiz. The UEFA Intertoto Cup (from la, Inter, 'between' + german: toto, 'betting pool'),Most precisely, from (football pool); cf. often abbreviated and more known in the German-speaking world as UI Cup and originally called the International Football Cup, was a summer football competition. The competition was discontinued after the 2008 tournament. Teams who originally would have entered the Intertoto Cup now directly enter the qualifying stages of the UEFA Europa League from this point.
