Gabriella Charlotte Page (born October 29, 1994) is a Canadian fencer. Biography In 2015, she won one of the bronze medals in the women's sabre event at the Pan American Games held in Toronto, Canada. She also won a bronze medal in the same event at the 2019 Pan American Games held in Lima, Peru. She also competed at the Pan American Fencing Championships where she won a bronze medal in the individual sabre event in 2019; bronze medals in the team sabre event in 2012, 2013 and 2016; and competed in 2014, 2015 and 2018. Page represented Canada at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan. She competed in the women's sabre event. Fencing
Fencing is a group of three related combat sports. The three disciplines in modern fencing are the foil, the épée, and the sabre (also ''saber''); winning points are made through the weapon's contact with an opponent. A fourth discipline, singlestick, appeared in the 1904 Olympics but was dropped after that and is not a part of modern fencing. Fencing was one of the first sports to be played in the Olympics. Based on the traditional skills of swordsmanship, the modern sport arose at the end of the 19th century, with the Italian school having modified the historical European martial art of classical fencing, and the French school later refining the Italian system. Fencing At The 2020 Summer Olympics – Women's Sabre
The women's sabre event at the 2020 Summer Olympics is took place on 26 July 2021 at the Makuhari Messe. 36 fencers from 18 nations competed. Background This was the 5th appearance of the event, which has been held at every Summer Olympics since being introduced in 2004. The reigning Olympic champion was Yana Egorian of Russia. The reigning World Champion was Olha Kharlan of Ukraine (also the 2016 Olympic bronze medalist). The 2018 World Champion was Sofia Pozdniakova of Russia. A preview from Olympics.com identified Kharlan as a fencer to watch in 2020. Qualification A National Olympic Committee (NOC) could enter up to 3 qualified fencers in the women's sabre. The Canadian Olympic Committee (COC; french: Comité olympique canadien) is a private, non-profit organization that represents Canada at the International Olympic Committee (IOC). It is also a member of the Pan American Sports Organization (PASO). 2018 Pan American Fencing Championships
The 2018 Pan American Fencing Championships was held in Havana, Cuba from 15 to 20 June 2018 at the Coliseo de la Ciudad Deportiva. The top seven teams (+ hosts Peru) in each team event qualified for the 2019 Pan American Games in Lima, Peru. After the seven teams in each event were determined, the top two athletes per individual event not qualified through a team would also qualify. 2015 Pan American Fencing Championships
The 2015 Pan American Fencing Championships were held at the National Sports Stadium, in Santiago de Chile, from 17 to 26 April 2015. The event was organized by the Pan American Fencing Confederation and the Chilean Fencing Federation, with the support of the International Fencing Federation and with the sponsorship of the Chilean Ministry of Sport and the Chilean Olympic Committee. It gathered more than 220 fencers from 24 countries. It is a qualifying tournament for the 2015 Pan American Games in Toronto. It also belongs to the qualification road to the 2016 Summer Olympics.
