Gabriel P. Sanchez
Gabriel Patrick Sanchez (born Gabriel Nathan Sanchez, 1976) is an American lawyer and judge who is a United States circuit judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. He served an associate judge of the California Court of Appeal, First Appellate District from 2018 to 2022. Early life and education A Los Angeles native, Sanchez graduated from Harvard-Westlake School in 1994. He received his Bachelor of Arts, ''cum laude'', from Yale College in 1998, his Master of Philosophy in European Studies from the University of Cambridge in 2000 and he received his Juris Doctor from Yale Law School in 2005. He was a Fulbright Scholar in 1999 in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Senior Status
Senior status is a form of semi-retirement for United States federal judges. To qualify, a judge in the Federal judiciary of the United States, federal court system must be at least 65 years old, and the sum of the judge's age and years of service as a federal judge must be at least 80 years. As long as senior judges carry at least a 25 percent caseload or meet other criteria for activity, they remain entitled to maintain a staffed office and chambers, including a secretary and their normal complement of law clerks, and they continue to receive annual cost-of-living increases.
