Gabriel Murr
Gabriel Murr ( ar, غابريال المرّ) is a Lebanese politician and businessman who launched MTV in 1991, and is the brother of Michel Murr. He is an open critic of the relationship that Lebanon has had with the Syrian Government. Personal life and Education Gabriel Murr was born on 26 February 1939. He has a civil engineering degree from the American University of Beirut in 1963. He married Hoda Roos with whom he has four children: Jihad, Michel, Carol and Carl. MTV (Lebanon)
Murr Television, marketed and known as MTV Lebanon, is a Lebanese television station based in Naccache, Metn District. History Founded in 1991 by Gabriel Murr, a Lebanese businessman and politician. MTV was shut down in 2002 as it was found guilty of violating article 68 of the electoral law of 1999 which bans propaganda during the election process but, since other Lebanese channels did not comply with the law either, some observers suspect that the closure was due to MTV’s criticism of the Lebanese government and of Syria. As well as lawsuit againt MTV In 2005, the Lebanese parliament decided to amend article 68 and reopen the station after the Syrian troops withdrew from Lebanon and the anti-Syrian opposition coalition won a majority in Lebanon’s parliament, but the station remained closed. Michel Murr
Michel Murr ( ar, ميشال المرّ, 29 September 1931 – 31 January 2021) was a Lebanese politician and businessman. He served as member of parliament, deputy prime minister and interior minister and was a prominent and powerful lawmaker in the northern Metn region. Early life and education Michel Murr was born to a Greek Orthodox Christian family in the Matn District village of Bteghrine in 1931. His parents were Elias Murr and Rose Saliba, he had one brother, Gabriel Murr, and four sisters including May Murr. He studied engineering at St Joseph University and graduated in 1955. He later studied law at the University of Paris II Panthéon-Assas and graduated in 1958. Political career Michel Murr ran for a seat in the parliament in 1960, but he lost to Albert Moukheiber. He then went to live in West Africa during much of the 1960s and made a sizable fortune there in the construction industry. Matn District
Matn ( ar, قضاء المتن, '), sometimes spelled Metn (or preceded by the article El, as in El Matn), is a district (''qadaa'') in the Mount Lebanon Governorate of Lebanon, east of the Lebanon's capital Beirut. The district capital is Jdeideh (followed to Jdeideh, Bouchrieh, El Sedd Municipality). Mirna el Murr Abou Charaf ( ar, ميرنا المرّ) is the head of the Federation of Municipalities of the Metn () in Lebanon for three consecutive terms. She was born into a Greek Orthodox Christian family. Her father was the Lebanese politician, former Member of Parliament and government minister Michel Murr and she is the sister of the former Lebanese government minister Elias Murr. The Lebanese Parliament ( ar, مجلس النواب, translit=Majlis an-Nuwwab; french: Chambre des députés) is the national parliament of the Republic of Lebanon. There are 128 members elected to a four-year term in multi-member constituencies, apportioned among Lebanon's diverse Christian and Muslim denominations but with half of the seats reserved for Christians and half reserved to Muslims per Constitutional Article 24.
