Gable Garenamotse
Gable Garenamotse (born February 28, 1977 in Gumare, North-West) is a Botswana long jumper, who has won two silver medals at the Commonwealth Games. In 1999 Garenamotse won the triple jump at the African Southern Region Championships, and participated in both long jump and triple jump at the World Championships. Having peaked at a 16.66 metres jump that year, a national record, he decided to concentrate on long jump from thereon. His first international medal was a bronze at the 21st Universiade in 2001. At the 2002 Commonwealth Games in Manchester Garenamotse placed second. He competed at the 2004 Olympics, without reaching the final. He repeated the second place four years later at the 2006 Commonwealth Games, setting a national record of 8.17 metres. In August the same year he improved to 8.27 metres. Gumare
Gumare or Gomare is a rural village located in the North-West District of Botswana, near the Okavango Delta. The population of Gumare was 6,067 in 2001 census, but had risen to 8,532 iby the 2011 census. Gumare is served by Gumare Airport. Four separate government institutions manage Ngamiland District: # District Council; # District Administration; # Tribal Administration; # Land Board. Maun serves as the administrative center of Ngamiland. Gumare is the administrative headquarters for the Okavango Delta Subdistrict, which has its own set of administrative institutions. Okavango's administrative boundary starts at Habu, including Qangwa and Xaixai up to Gudigwa. Its political boundary starts from Etsha 1 up to Gudigwa and this is different from education and agriculture. 2008 African Championships In Athletics
The 16th African Championships in Athletics was held in Addis Ababa, the capital city of Ethiopia, from April 30 to May 4, 2008. The competition venue was the Addis Ababa Stadium. It is the largest Athletics event held in Ethiopia to date. It was the first time in its then 29-year history the African Championships in Athletics were held in Eastern Africa, despite the region's well-documented success in long-distance running. In the men's 100 m, Nigerians Olusoji Fasuba and Uchenna Emedolu repeated the places from the 2006 edition. On April 30, there was a 35-minute delay to the men's 10,000 metres due to weather, but the Ethiopians dominated the podium and the race, with the missed absence of world champion Kenenisa Bekele. Athletics At The 1999 All-Africa Games
The seventh All-Africa Games were held in September 1999 in Johannesburg, South Africa. As the track is at an altitude of 1748 metres all performances are considered to be set at altitude, this is believed to assist events up to 400 metres and in the long jump and triple jump. However, for events beyond 800 metres the thinner air is believed to have a detrimental effect on performances. Maria de Lurdes Mutola of Mozambique won her third 800 metres title in a row. Nigeria won all four relay races; 4 × 100 metres and 4 × 400 metres for men and women. South African athletes won all four throwing events for men. Some new women's events were added: pole vault, hammer throw and 10 kilometres road walk.
