GTK Gliwice
Gliwickie Towarzystwo Koszykówki Gliwice, shortly GTK Gliwice, is a professional basketball club based in Gliwice, Poland. The team currently plays in the first level Polish Basketball League. History The club was founded in 1998 and initially focussed on youth teams and developing young players. In 2006, the club reached the III Liga, the fourth highest level in Polish basketball. In 2010, the team promoted to the II Liga and in 2014 the club was invited to join the I Liga. After the club finished as the runner-up in the 2016–17 season, Gliwice was invited to join the PLK for the 2017–18 season. Since 2018, Gliwice plays in the Gliwice Arena, changing between its big hall and training hall. On 26 May 2020, Gliwice signed German Matthias Zollner as new head coach. Polish Basketball League
Polska Liga Koszykówki (PLK) (English language, English: Polish Basketball League) is a professional men's club basketball list of basketball leagues, league in Poland. It constitutes the first and highest-tier level of the Polish basketball league system, Polish league pyramid. The winning team of the final round are crowned the Polish Champions of that season. It began in 1947–48, with the name of I Liga, and was originally organized by the Polish Basketball Federation. The league changed to its current form, beginning with the 1997–98 season, after the Polska Liga Koszykówki SA, PLK SA (the Polish Basketball League Joint-stock company) took control over the league (the PLK SA was created in 1995). In 2000–01 season the league turned professional. The PLK, which is played under FIBA Europe, FIBA rules, currently consists of 16 teams. Malachi Richardson
Malachi Richardson (born January 5, 1996) is an American professional basketball player for GTK Gliwice of the Polish Basketball League (PLK). He played one season of college basketball for Syracuse before being selected by the Charlotte Hornets with the 22nd overall pick in the 2016 NBA draft. High school and college career Richardson attended Trenton Catholic Academy his freshman year, then spent his sophomore year at Roselle Catholic High School before returning to Trenton Catholic Academy for his junior and senior years, to team back up with coach Fred Falchi, who came out of retirement to coach. In his high school career at Trenton Catholic Academy, Malachi scored a total 1,245 points, averaging 19.2 points in his junior year and 18.7 in his senior year. The 2019–20 Polish Basketball League (PLK) season, the Energa Basket Liga for sponsorship reasons, was the 86th season of the Polish Basketball League, the highest professional basketball league in Poland. Anwil Włocławek were the defending champions. On 17 March 2020, the league was ended prematurely due to the coronavirus pandemic. Stelmet Enea Zielona Góra were named champions. Teams 16 teams will participate this season. Enea Astoria Bydgoszcz and Śląsk Wrocław were promoted from the I Liga, while Miasto Szkla Krosno was relegated. Koszalin did not get a licence this season. The 2018–19 Polish Basketball League (PLK) season, the Energa Basket Liga for sponsorship reasons, was the 85th season of the Polish Basketball League, the highest professional basketball league in the Poland. Anwil Włocławek defended its title and repeated as Polish champions. Teams Czarni Słupsk withdrew during the 2017–18 PLK season because of financial problems. On 17 May 2018, Spójnia Stargard promoted to the PLK as the winners of the I Liga, after defeating Sokół Łańcut 3–0 in the playoff finals. Also, during the pre-season, PGE Turów Zgorzelec withdrew from the tournament. 2017–18 PLK Season
The 2017–18 Polish Basketball League (PLK) season, the Energa Basket Liga for sponsorship reasons, was the 84th season of the Polish Basketball League, the highest professional basketball league in the Poland. The season started on 30 September 2017 and ended 4 June 2018. Anwil Włocławek won its second ever title in club history. Teams Polfarmex Kutno and Siarka Tarnobrzeg were relegated to the I Liga after finishing in the 15th and 16th place in the 2016–17 PLK season. Legia Warsaw promoted to the PLK 15 years later, after winning the I Liga championship. The Polish Basketball Cup ( pl, Puchar Polski w koszykówce mężczyzn) is the annual top-tier level national domestic basketball cup competition for clubs in Poland. It is managed and organised by the Polish Basketball League (PLK). The competition was founded in 1933. Śląsk Wrocław has won the most titles, with 14 trophies. History The creation of the tournament was initiated in 1933, by the Polish Association of Sports Games (PZGS), an organisation which carried out the organisation of national sports competitions in Poland. Format Since the 2012 season, a Final Eight format is used, in which the highest placed teams from the first half of a given Polish Basketball League (PLK) regular season qualify. Terrance Eugene Ferguson Jr. (born May 17, 1998) is an American professional basketball player for the GTK Gliwice of the Polish Basketball League (PLK). He completed high school at Advanced Preparatory International in Dallas, Texas, where he was a top-20 player in the Class of 2016. Ferguson made separate commitments to both Alabama and Arizona before deciding to skip college and play overseas in 2016–17. Gliwice Arena is a multi-purpose indoor arena in Gliwice, Poland. It provides 13,752 seats in the stands (with room for up to 17,178 spectators) in the main arena and is considered one of the largest entertainment and sports halls in the country. Initially, the venue was given the name "Podium Hall", which was later changed to "Hala Gliwice". Since opening in May 2018, this name is used interchangeably with the name "Arena Gliwice" which is used for international events. Quinton Hooker (born January 22, 1995) is an American professional basketball player for Bnei Herzliya Basket of the Israeli Basketball Premier League. At a height of 1.83 m (6 ft. 0 in.) tall, he plays at the point guard position. He attended Park Center High School in his hometown of Brooklyn Park, Minnesota, earning Minnesota Mr. Basketball honors during his senior year after taking his team to the state title game. Matthias Zollner
Matthias Zollner (born 9 May 1981) is a German professional basketball coach who serves as head coach of Alba Fehérvár. Coaching career From 2004 to 2009 Zollner coached his hometown club TSV Dachau 1865 "Spurs".
